Shawe-Taylor's Old School House is a wonderful place for golf, walking and relaxation. The name Tierneevin is an Irish word meaning 'A Beautiful Place', so the name speaks for itself. This is a most luxurious building and we are very proud of the finish provided. We are certain that our discerning guests will enjoy holidaying in this beautiful part of Ireland. Charming period school house (ca. 1820), recently restored to its original splendour. Eco friendly interior finished with breathable products such as lime mortar on walls, pitch pine and traditional flag on floors. Insulated throughout, the schoolhouse has a high energy rating. With its cathedral style ceilings, wooden beams and a mezzanine/balcony bedroom, it is beautifully presented with antique furniture throughout, adding enormous warmth and character. This is a wonderful place to get away from all the stress in an area of outstanding natural beauty and geology.

Ideally suited for a golfing and/or walking holiday. Gort Golf club is literally on your doorstep with very reasonable rates available, and an excellent clubhouse and restaurant. This superb 18 hole Championship Golf Course is set on 160 acres of picturesque parkland, overlooking the Burren and the Clare Hills. The Golf Course was designed by the 1989 Ryder Cup hero Christy O'Connor. It consists of four outstanding par-3's, a testing par-5 ninth and a terrific par-4, carved through by Burren stone and natural waterways. From the property you can take a delightful 3 mile circular walk, which runs through the Burren landscape. The scenery, birds and wildlife, botany, geology and archaeology - all can be enjoyed on this short walk. Also close by is Kilmacduagh Monastery with several churches and a round tower. The Monastery was established in the 7th century by Saint Colman Mac Duagh, hence the name Kilmacduagh (the church of the son of Duac). Kinvara and Ballyvaughan are nearby fishing and farming villages both on the edge of Galway Bay. For shopping there is Galway City and Ennis, both only 20 minutes' drive from the property. There are many fine restaurants close by in Gort and Kinvara.

We had a wonderful stay. It’s a quiet peaceful setting, yet close to the motorway to access all the places we wished to visit. It made for an excellent place to relax after the days activities. After a rocky a start to our trip we had a little trouble finding the house. It really shouldn’t have been a problem as it is literally next door to the church. John and Brid were there to meet us and help get us situated. We appreciated the personal touch especially John walking out to the road after I missed the turn the first time.

We stayed with two children and grandparents. The cottage and surrounding property were idyllic. The home is perfectly located to explore the Galway and Cliffs of Moher area. The owners met us to give us a tour of the house and show us how things worked which we felt was above and beyond. Cons- The home is not as clean as we would have liked and we found all the cookware needs to be updated. Overall, we had a nice stay in this charming home.

The house was absolutely fabulous. We had a great time with our family, and it was so nice of the owner, Brid, to meet us there and show us around the property. She also gave us wonderful recommendations for local restaurants and attractions. The house is centrally located for quick day trips to Galway and the cliffs of Moore, etc. Our children particularly loved interacting with the donkeys and the cows on the perimeter of the property. It was a wonderful house and we highly recommend it. If we ever come back to Ireland, we would definitely stay there again.

Perfect stay in the old Schoolhouse, John was very helpful when we met to go over details of the house. Location couldn’t be more ideal for exploring the area. Gort has nice restaurants, pubs. Grocery shopping options are Lidl, Aldi,SuperValu. Would love stay again in the near future

Just 50km from Galway and in the countryside, this home was a wonderful base for explorations from Connemara down to Limerick. We could have fared further but for lack of time. The home is quite charming, Brid gave us excellent recommendations for nearby eateries and had stocked the home with information useful to tourists. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone who is considering a visit while the home is available.

This place was amazing. John is friendly with a wonderful sense of humor. The schoolhouse is just gorgeous, cozy, and inviting. Anything we needed could be found in the house. And the two donkeys stole our hearts. We fed them the first day and they called for us at the gate every morning and evening. (They love carrots!) There are ruins of a monastery a short drive away, well worth a visit. The location is very central to any of the sights. Careful of the narrow roads if you are driving and stay cognizant of the little pullovers. You might have to back up!

Beautiful setting for this cottage! We loved our week stay and had a great base to travel in this area. There was plenty of room for 6 adults. We also had so much fun feeding the family donkeys!! Please note that the property is not in the city area of Gort (like the map shows)-it is a few miles outside, in the country. Our family hopes to be back soon.

We really enjoyed staying in the school house converted into a family home. It felt very spacious and warm and inviting as if we were at our own home. Brid welcomed us and showed us how to work everything. Some of it was different for us coming from the States so the tour was appreciated. We recommend this house rental 100%!

There were 4 of us. Originally I thought the property was closer/or in town. It is not. You are about 2km from town. But that is ok. This place is really nice, we loved it. From this location, with a rented car, Ireland is your oyster. We day tripped from the house in every direction, plus Gort has a rail connection and Dublin is an easy trip away. The accomodations are spot on and John is a helpful host. We would rebook in an instant.

This was our first trip to Ireland and it couldn’t have been better. The old school house was just what we were looking for. John was so helpful with places to see. He told us about the Burren Perfumery so we drove out to it. The drive alone was wonderful. The perfumery was excellent, can’t wait for the production be delivered home. It was a quiet place, around the corner from a Catholic Church, where we attended Mass. It was charming. Isolated from the hurly-burly of the town of Gort. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was superb. Living room was large and comfortable and plenty of shelf space for all our daily stuff.

Loved staying at John and Brid's schoolhouse. It was comfortable, clean, great location, beautiful, with the cutest little neighbors (donkeys) that we enjoyed visiting with each day. 😀 John met us for check in, and gave us great tips and recommendations for food and places to see, as well as a little history on the schoolhouse. He was very kind and welcoming, and provided great communication prior to our arrival. Just wonderful all around!

The house was ideal as a base for my husband and two daughters and I to explore counties Galway and Clare. The Burren is a hidden treasure, and Galway is one of our favorite places to visit in Ireland. We loved Innis Oirr and Doolin, and the drive there from the house is spectacular. The property has so much character...restored to a wonderful open air but cabiney feel home with all of the conveniences you just cannot get in a hotel or B&B. Loved wakening each morning to the donkeys braying for carrots :), and a light and airy home to have coffee in while planning the day. John was a terrific host, leading up to our arrival, and then most accommodating when we arrived later than planned. He stopped to give a tour and familiarize us w/ the mechanics of the house soon after our arrival. Irish hospitality at its finest. This was our first VRBO rental and we were pleased that we tried it. Thanks, John.

The most beautiful house to stay in, in a stunning part of Ireland. We loved everything about the house. Beautifully furnished, well equipped, really comfortable beds. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful - staying up until 11.30 at night to await our very late arrival. We had 3 adults and 2 children in our party and there was so much space. We were completely blessed with the hottest and sunniest week in Ireland so we didn't get to use the cosy fire in the house but instead took advantage of the lovely courtyard and stone table. A great location to explore this beautiful part of Ireland - we did lots of water based activity and cycling as it was fantastic weather. And the kids loved helping John and Brid to get their mum and baby cow from the field into the trailer. A complete gem of a house and one we would highly recommend to anyone visiting.

We were 4 adults and a little dog. There are more than enough place for us. The whole house is furnished as you're in the antique shop. It is kind of been sent back in time to grandparents' house. And, really, sitting in a front of fire place, drinking morning coffee surrounded with antique furniture, looking through the windows to the green fields with lots of black and white sheep lazy moving around, seems that you would not be surprised if you see Charles Ingalls from Little House On The Prairie passed the house riding his horse. Really great atmosphere in and around the house. Location? Great! We travel with a car, and the house is very central placed to drive to our points of interest. Cliffs of Moher (of course) Burren Centre, Klifenora Cathedral, Aillwee Cave and Birds of Prey, Corcomroe Abbey, Caherconnell Sheepdog Demonstrations, Killarney National Park, Ring Of Kerry (of course, of course)… are some of the places we have had on our list. Organize your sightseeing places according to area where they are placed and you can really make good use of house placement to visit lots of them. And at last, but not least – the hosts. You will not notice or see them because they are not living at same place. BUT, believe me, if you need them, Brid and John will do anything to assist you. Wonderful people! Great people. In this time of moneygrubbing where the profit is a God it is touching hearts to experience people like Brid and John. Brid and John, thank you very much for helping us to manage that week when our son was admitted to hospital.

Personal introductions and friendly advice only add to the superb quality of the school house itself. Large but cozy in the Autumn chill and very well appointed with everything you need. Just got back from a wonderful stay at this gorgeous house in Gort. It was everything and more the description stated. The location was very central to seeing the sights of the region. The house was immaculate and beautiful. Everything that you could need while there was provided. The donkeys out back were a real hit with my two boys and Mum. They added a real country feel to the vacation. Mr. Casey could not have been nicer or more helpful. I felt I could have contacted him for anything and he would have helped. Luckily there was no need b/c all was so well taken care of. Can not recommend this house enough! Truly a wonderful experience!

I stayed with 3 friends and found this house to have all that we could ask for. Each bedroom was comfortable and inviting with the added bonus of a bathroom each! The kitchen is well equipped and spacious and the living area is charming. There is also ample parking space in the garden. So nice to come home to after a day on the road. The location is great for touring, with the village of Gort a short drive away to pick up the groceries etc. Thank you Brid for the warm welcome and afternoon tea and for your helpful advice. Our stay was so memorable. It was a great location for jumping off and visiting many sites. The house itself was spacious and quaint. Each room had charm and was decorated beautifully. Loved the house! John and Brid have done an excellent job renovated the old school house. John met us the first day and he was as nice as could be. We received a true Irish greeting! It was just my husband and I that stayed in the house, but it could easily accommodate 4 more people comfortably. The town of Gort, is a great hub for exploring the Western part of Ireland. I highly recommend visiting the town of Kinvara, (20 minutes away) a quaint fishing village, and also home to Dunguaire Castle where they hold banquets dinners inside. In Gort, there is also a train station that will take you into Galway City, which we fell in love with, and it also gives you a break from driving. :) We loved feeding carrots to the two donkeys (which we named Honky and Tonky) in the morning. Highly recommend the stay, before we even left, we were already discussing when to return. :)

John and Brid Casey have done an excellent job renovating this old school house. The pictures do not begin to do it justice. It is MORE than we expected by far. So lovely and comfortable. It is also convenient to most of western Ireland. The Caseys are excellent hosts, providing so much information, and they are charming as well. We highly recommend this home. We were there a month.
