Liked how it ‘appeared’ on the marketing platform
Terrible experience! The property looked very appealing online. However, upon arrival it became immediately clear that it was not suitable for people with even mild mobility issues — such as my elderly father-in-law, who was part of our group. While he can generally walk without difficulty, he does struggle with stairs. The property featured a wide, very steep staircase indoors and outdoor steps without handrails. These posed serious safety concerns and were not mentioned anywhere in the property’s listing. This makes the property unsuitable for elderly guests, people with mobility challenges, or families with young children (e.g., toddlers) who could be at risk of falling. In addition, the second bathroom was located downstairs and built under the staircase, making it cramped and awkward to use. The quality of the provided towels, bed linen, and pillows was poor. The bed linen was not ironed and did not appear particularly fresh or appealing. The beds themselves were uncomfortable. Cobwebs were visible on the light fixtures, and drinking glasses in the cupboard were not clean. Some remote controls had no batteries. Overall, the experience was very disappointing compared to what we expected based on the online photos, which did not highlight the steep staircase or cramped under-stairs bathroom. Because of the safety issues, we had no choice but to find alternative accommodation for the remainder of our trip. We informed the hosts immediately upon arrival and checked out early the next morning after just one night. We had not purchased a cancellation policy because we booked the property in good faith, trusting its description and expecting to stay the full duration. Unfortunately, the safety concerns meant we simply could not remain there. Disappointingly and, in our view, unreasonably, the hosts refused to reimburse us for the four unused nights.
