Richmond 1823

The location was great with fantastic views of Richmond Bridge and the river. Great off street parking and a really beautiful looking cottage.

The cottage has clearly not been designed to stay in for longer than a day as there are some absolute basic items missing. There was no television, no wardrobes or place to put clothes, not even a hook on the back of a door to hang your coats. No toaster, no microwave just a weird mini oven with no instructions so it was next to useless. Not even a toilet roll holder! A really uncomfortable lounge which made sitting in the lounge room unpleasant, but the only other place to sit was the beautiful dining room but to get into it you had to step onto an old convict stone that was uneven and a real trip hazard. Anyone with mobility issues would not be able to get into the room. But the worst was the tiny sink that was too small to actually wash dishes in and with no dishwasher there was no other option.

Richmond 1823 is a wonderful property and it’s clear that a lot of care was take in renovating it while still highlighting its history. This made for a really cosy stay in what is a perfect gateway to the historic town.

Our only feedback would be that the kitchen wasn’t quite as stocked as we expected, the main issue being that the sink is not large enough to wash dishes in (especially larger items). Otherwise, while it may be difficult to accommodante within a small space, it would also help to have some space to store clothes and travel bags.

The beds were comfortable and the pillow options were great. A property with lovely aspects and lots of potential. The bathroom fit out was beautiful, we loved the sliding door feature in the bathroom.

The property wasn’t particularly well maintained with dirty glasses on shelves, the mini oven hadn’t been cleaned. The surfaces were very dusty and there were a lot of cobwebs. Amenities could do with some improvements, coffee should be a staple. Some design elements whilst beautiful let down the practicality of property for example in the kitchen, the kitchen sink was too small wash any plates in. The living room felt sparse. The couch in the space, whilst lovely from a design aspect was not at all comfortable or welcoming. We simply didn’t use that room at opting to hangout in the bedrooms instead.
