The Schist Cabin

The cabin is cosy, charming and the view is lovely. The beds are firm, the shower plentiful with hot water, the kitchen sufficiently stocked to facilitate home cooking.

I assume the property managers have had issues with previous guests - as there were warnings everywhere and threats of fines - if you didn’t place the garbage where they wanted it, or if you cooked with a strong odour. You were warned to only light the fire if you were familiar with fireplaces etc. It just felt rather unwelcoming, all these warnings and consequences. Also - there was only one roll of toilet paper provided for 3 days, 2 nights for a family of 4 which was inconvenient and disappointing.

The cabin itself was lovely but the location was perfect.

A dryer would be nice.

Location and views quite superb. Good area and helpful neighbours. Just our sort of place. Quiet and gentle.

The front door caused us a few problems - usually when trying to open it. Our enjoyment of the place would have been enhanced with some outside furniture to just lie in the sun and read or look at the views. The benches were okay but not comfortable for resting

The Schist Cabin is a great place to stay , it's a nice place to spend a few days, the location and views are excellent, comfortable bed, good bathroom and a functional kitchen. We enjoyed our stay there.

We didn't expect to have to brush up the previous occupants food waste from the kitchen floor or to have to go around with the vac before we could occupy the cabin. I'd say absolutely no attempt had been made to clean the floors. Outside there are three chairs, two are broken and in a dangerous condition, disappointing, when I was cleaning (pre occupation) I lifted up the seat cushions and there was a fair amount of food waste down there, I didn't clean that up. Before you arrive you get an email explaining how there's been a high amount of spider's webs and they offer their apologies? There was a season's worth of dead bugs and spider's webs around the windows and patio doors, again absolutely no attempt had been made to clean up, it took me five minutes with the vac. Overall the Cabin is a lovely place but it is badly let down by the cleaning team. And in all honesty it needs a refresh, the place looks 'stark' and some maintenance and reinvestment is needed. It could easily be perfect.
