Studio Secundo

We arrived in Metz rather late and had to navigate the narrow streets. The streets are lined with small bollards. There was nowhere for us to just quickly park the car and check how to get in. The very few spaces that were available for parking along the road were already occupied, and everywhere else were bollards. There was also only space for one car to drive along. So every time we thought we could safely stop and check, there would be a car behind us. We finally found a space by pure luck around the corner. We knew in advance that our car wouldn´t fit in the provided garage, as we had a car roof box. During our stay in Metz, we never moved the car, as we valued the space we had found. We retrieved the key from the little lockbox next to the garage. One walks through the garage, to get to the flat. The garage opens automatically with the remote provided along with the flat key. Once the garage actually didn´t close, and we quickly realised it just need a little guidance along one of the gliders on the ground. Once you walk through the garage you come to a small enclosure. One has to go up a few steps to arrive at the flat. The steps are not necessarily all the same height, so one needs to be careful. When entering the flat you have VERY steep winding steps on the left. Straight ahead you have the kitchen, which offers all you require: stove, oven, washing machine, toaster, microwave, kettle, hoover, ironing board + iron, and so on. Considering the flat was so small, it was one of the best equipped flats we had during our weeks in France. Only the dishes were a bit haphazard, but still all okay. In the kitchen, under the stairs was the toilet. All the space was utilised. Going up the stairs you arrived in the bedroom. There was a mounted TV and an industrial style hanger rack for our clothes on the wall, no cupboard. In the same room, with no door, was the shower + sink. The shower door doesn´t close properly, but the shower is good nevertheless.

The kitchen and toilet downstairs were clean. The windows in the kitchen couldn´t completely be opened as there were blinds attached. When closing the window, the hook for the blinds on the right window would always come loose, leaving the blind to hang only on one side. We initially liked the charm the flat offered, but on closer inspection, the enclosure leading to the flat needed some cleaning. Charm is fabulous, but does not require quite so much dust, cobwebs or even a cigarette butt that was maybe left by previous occupants. When entering the bedroom one is instantly hit with a smell reminiscent of unwashed, greasy smelling clothes. This smell never left the flat, even though we had the windows open 24/7 during our 4 night stay. When leaving the flat, we were asked to strip the beds to make it easier for the cleaning staff. That is when we noticed all the stains on the mattress. It surely would have been advisable to use a mattress cover to prevent such stains. Would we book again? No. Just because, charm is lovely, but after a while the stairs became tiresome, the fact that there was no living room to lounge in and the permeating smell in the bedroom. The smell in the bedroom can surely be fixed. And, then the flat is lovely for few nights. Just make sure, you need no privacy, like as mentioned, there is no door in front of the shower. I think this is more a personal preference on our side, than critique (apart from the smell). We arrived during a sweltering heatwave in France. A fan is provided, but it could only give so much relief. It is not super loud in the area, but it is close to town. So, yes, you do hear the occasional reveller late at night. The flat was close to town, which is lovely to visit. The town reminded us a little of Bath/UK. It has so much history and really was worth visiting.

Tolle Maisonette-Wohnung (steile Treppe) mit eigener (sehr kleiner) Garage. Geschmackvoll eingerichtet und alles da, was man braucht. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Lage auch super, ca. 10 Gehminuten zur Kathedrale.

Studio difficile d'accès, passage par le garage dont la porte n'était pas facile à ouvrir. Revoir l'ouverture pour en faciliter l'accès. La taille du garage n'est pas adaptée à toutes les voitures, c'est à préciser en amont. L'établissement studio secundo qui gère le studio est loin d'être joignable 24h/24 comme indiqué, et il est impossible d'avoir un interlocuteur au téléphone, si ce n'est par sms. A améliorer.
