Vieille Maison de Ma Lé

This is the best place I have stayed at on my travels through northern Vietnam. A 250 year old property that is filled with old traditional artifacts and run by the most lovely lady Sinh and her friend Ba. The cooking was out of this world with authentic Vietnamese dishes served and huge portions. They are so friendly and have a beautiful dog and puppy on the property that are super friendly. Room was spacious, clean and bed was very comfortable with an electric heated mattress if you get cold. Clean toilets and shower with plenty of hot water. Just set off the main road so very easy to find and in a little community that have water buffalo they take down and bring up from the river. I even managed to hike it down to the river which is quite the challenge of a trek but an obvious path that leads back up to the property. Views are stunning all round here and I had such a lovely time I stayed an extra night, just wish I could have stayed even longer!

Accueil des hôtesses irréprochables, elles vous font découvrir la vie locale .Et vous préparent de très bons repas.Par contre il faut loger dans cette maison pour son authenticité , pas pour le confort. Petit plus tout de même , le lit est chauffant et c’est très agréable quand la température extérieure est basse.

Wow just WOW – didn’t expect this at all!! 01 - 2026 Ok so I almost skipped this place bc it looked kinda remote on the map and my friends were like “just stay in Dong Van it’s easier” but OMG I’m SO glad I didn’t listen to them lol This house is literally 250 years old?? Like WHAT. The moment I walked in I was like… ok this is special. It’s a traditional Giay ethnic home and you can feel the history in every corner. The wooden beams, the creaky floors, the smell of smoke from the firepit – it’s not fancy but that’s exactly the point y’know? The location tho!! Woke up at 5am (jet lag lol) and the view from the balcony… I just sat there for like an hour watching the fog roll over the rice terraces. No wifi needed, just vibes haha. Super peaceful, only sounds were some cows and a rooster doing his thing 😅 Room was basic ngl – mattress situation, shared bathroom downstairs – but honestly after a long day on the motorbike I slept like a baby next to the fire pit. Brought me back to camping trips as a kid tbh. The food!! Host cooked dinner for all the guests and we ate together family style. Fresh veggies, local dishes, some rice wine (they call it “happy water” lmaooo). Ended up chatting w/ travelers from France and Australia till like midnight. These r the moments u travel for imo. Walked down to a stream thru the buckwheat fields the next morning – absolutely gorgeous, felt like a Studio Ghibli movie ngl. Few things to know: ∙ Cash only!! No card, no ATM nearby so bring enough ∙ It’s ~15km from Dong Van, easy ride ∙ Bring warm clothes, gets cold af at night • Oh and the bed is heated + there’s a fireplace stove right in the bedroom. ∙ Sat market nearby if u time it right Not gonna lie it’s not for everyone – if u want something REAL, something u’ll actually remember in 10 yrs… this is it. Already told like 5 ppl to go here. 10/10 would return 💯

Häftigt hus, familjärt och autentiskt.

Boendet är praktiskt taget utomhus fast under tak. När vi var där var det 9 grader utomhus, och därmed 9 grader inomhus. Det var mycket kallt och det fanns bara en liten elektrisk värmare som knappt klarade att värma händerna. Dusch finns men är utomhus under tak, och finns stor glipa mellan dörren så att man kan kolla in. När vi skulle checka in var ingen där och ägaren var tydligen full och utslagen, så vi fick hjälp av en gäst istället…
