Hotel Mundo Maya Tulum - Jaguar Park & Beach

Hotel is recently built and very modern - it has well appointed rooms and a great set of pools with bars, cabanas and pool loungers - good for both kids and adults. There is a gym, games room, two restaurants and number of bars and a spa all on site. The staff are very friendly and helpful, with an excellent guest to staff ratio during our stay, we did on occasion have to search for the right person or flag down a staff member, but they were always obliging and quick to help us. Spa pricing is reasonable given the quality of the treatments, generally had good availability. Location right next to the Jaguar park with use of the electric carts is great - it's away from the beaches in the secluded jungle but you can take the electric cart system to visit the beaches and the ruins as needed, without requiring a taxi. The Jaguar Park no longer has additional fees to visit the beach or to enter outside of the ruins as of our trip (mid-Sept 26) - there is a small sanitation fee per person due on arrival but this was very minor. Hotel was very quiet during our stay, felt almost private - but we came expecting this and the experience may have been quite different if the hotel was anywhere near capacity, especially if staffing levels were not increased. The price was exceptionally reasonable versus other properties with similar amenities, I would recommend it - there are a few quirks to get your head around when comparing with other high end properties and services but we did have an enjoyable stay and thought that it was good value. Breakfast as mentioned in other reviews is just one option - which seemed to vary a little in what parts of we got every day - including being charged for orange juice on one day, when it was included the previous three days. This was fine for our stay, but having a choice of 1 item from the menu, which are all listed at the same price, rather than being forced to have the same breakfast every day would be appreciated. Would recommend not paying extra for breakfast at time of booking, just select on the day at the restaurant and pay for what you want at roughly the same price. Or visit one of the many excellent restaurants in Tulum. You do get wristbands to use for the electric carts in the Jaguar park, however we did face some issues with drivers of the carts not knowing about the wristbands and we had to argue with them before they accepted we could use the carts. The wristbands are also paper, which is a bit annoying for a longer stay - would be nice if it was a guest card or something that is not around your wrist 24/7. Room did have a light damp smell, it didn't bother us at all but may bother others with more sensitive smell. Gym does not have free weights, but does have an array of ok-equipment, probably wouldn't work for someone looking for a serious workout.

I would improve the breakfast, some self service food counter would be amazing, and if not possible I would increase portions and servings
