About this house rental

Summary:

Cloudstreet is a beautifully renovated bungalow with stunning views in a Dartmoor village. A large open-plan living space and one bedroom are available for a couple or for two people sharing. Located on the outskirts of the village with access to open moorland, we have created a home which takes full advantage of the uninterrupted views across open countryside to the rear. It is a haven for couples seeking peace; is perfect for walkers and cyclists; or for exploring Devon and Cornwall. Good access to Mount Kelly College.

The Space:

The accommodation at Cloudstreet occupies one floor. There is a single, large open-plan living space that flows from the beautifully equipped kitchen to the dining area with stunning views, to the warm and comfortable lounge. The lounge has large leather sofas and a wood- burning stove at one end and a small ‘day-lounge’ at the other to soak up the sun and the views. Two large sets of bi-folding patio doors allow natural light to flood in, and in warmer weather can be fully opened. One bedroom is available, which has a superking bed. This can be separated into two single beds on request. The bathroom has a bath with shower over and there is a separate laundry/drying room.

Guests have the whole property to themselves apart from the owners’ bedroom and garden office, which will be unoccupied but locked. Cloudstreet has a lovely large garden with more formal areas next to the house and patio, and a nature area at the bottom with a wildlife pond and wildflower meadow areas. DVDs, games, books and maps are available to borrow. A picnic set is provided.

Guest Access:

There is off-road parking for a single vehicle on the driveway and further parking on the lane next to the house. Although a bungalow, the driveway is sloping and there are two steps up to the front and rear doors so guests with mobility problems should consider this before booking. The garden is accessed via shallow steps to the side of the patio, and is very gently sloping.

The Neighborhood:

Mary Tavy is a scattered village located within Dartmoor National Park that contains open moorland within its boundaries, and its former mining history is evident in the surrounding countryside. The local market town of Tavistock, with its award winning pannier market, is 4 miles away; the ocean city of Plymouth is 18 miles away; two miles distance is Brent Tor with its landmark church. The north and south coasts are less than an hour away. Cloudstreet is located on the outskirts of the village with access to open moorland directly from the house via a small lane, making it a walkers paradise. Dog walkers will really appreciate the access to moorland walks although do note that there are free-ranging sheep, highland cattle and Dartmoor ponies. The top of Gibbet Hill and Blackdown above Cloudstreet offer beautiful views across Dartmoor and on a clear day – to Bodmin Moor and Exmoor. The village has a thriving pub – The Mary Tavy Inn – in walking distance (15 mins), and a village shop and post office (5 mins). Close to the Mount Kelly College in Tavistock.

Getting Around:

There is a regular bus service from the village to the nearby towns of Okehampton and to Tavistock, and all villages between. From Tavistock there are buses to Plymouth, which is on the London Paddington to Penzance line. From Okehampton there is a train to Exeter.

Other Things to Note:

No smoking.

Children aged 12 and over only – our home and garden are not suitable for small children.

EV charger available ( chargeable )

Two well-behaved dogs are welcome – please ask if there are more – but please follow

house rules. The field at the bottom of the garden often has cattle or sheep in it.

There is a raised patio with a steep drop and an unfenced pond.

Our gardener comes fortnightly on a Monday for 3 hours only.

Cloudstreet is in a very peaceful area, and whilst very private, does have neighbouring

homes close-by.

The location and the property itself were perfect. The house was so well equipped, the bed really comfortable and the view beautiful! We felt welcome from the moment we stepped through the door, and especially appreciated the welcome basket - thank you! We enjoyed time relaxing in the house, and the walks from the door and nearby. A brilliant few days away; we really hope to visit again.

Really beautifully maintained property with lots of thoughtful touches to make it feel more like a home than just another vacation rental. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the back garden made for a fantastic view from the back windows.

I think my wife and I were the third people to stay at this place. It was perfect. The owners obviously live here at least part of the year, and it’s clear they love it. The bungalow is lovely. The entire place opens up with classic English countryside views, sounds, and smells. They have around 10 bird feeders all over the place, along with binoculars, bird guide books, OS maps, general guide books. Going by the books—the place is a literal library—I’m assuming the owners own and travel in a sprinter-type van when they aren’t here. The instruction book they have is very clearly laid out and helped out in all of those, “how do we turn on the fan?” kinda situations. They even had spare batteries for the remote. The whole place is very energy conscious. On a sunny day, we used the washing machine and watched the energy meter indicate that the sun was basically powering it. They have an old record player with a musician’s LP collection. There is a smart TV with surround sound, etc. But, the TV is an acceptable size, as in… it doesn’t dominate the room. The bed is comfortable, and the bathroom/shower, etc. is all top class. The Mary Tavy inn is within walking distance and very worth a visit for a pint or two. If you enjoy being in the country and hiking on the moors, quaint English villages, pasties, dartmoor ponies, sheep, cows, and being surrounded by wildlife, this place is it.
