Fossils Retreat

Great location for a fossil hunting teenager and grandparents. Quiet and scenic part of the holiday park. Easy to get to local attractions (Roman Villa and Carisbrook Castle, Alverstone Mead NR) and not too far from Alum Bay, Fort Victoria and Hanover Point. Local beach good but wouldn't bother with the Whitecliff beach. Chalet comfy for the 3 of us, just what we needed.

Off season this site is very quiet. We could see the sea and the monument hill from our chalet and, if the weather had been warmer, we would have enjoyed spending time on the veranda. The walks up to the monument, into Sandown and Shanklin, and to the beach are great - but challenging if you have mobility issues but plenty of flat grassy areas for an elderly dog to enjoy. Lovely views. The weather was very very cold but the chalet has heating thank goodness! We liked the little extra details - plug in torches, lap trays, a neat charger shelf in the kid's bedroom. There is an attachment ring for a dog's lead on the veranda. And the internet worked! The kitchen is well equipped, the cooker works very well and the undercounter fridge has an actual freezer section with its own door.

The bathroom door doesn't lock and doesn't have a 'positive' shut (it's a 'roller' push closure) and can't be closed from outside. Our dog was able to push the door open (when someone was using the bathroom!) and got himself trapped inside when we were asleep. A small issue.

We had a very comfortable stay, beautiful park and sea view. The hosts were very accommodating and ensured we had everything we needed. It was easy to find the place with the provided directions. We'd love to stay there again in the future.

Beautiful inside and out! The location on this site was, I think, the best. View out over grass, trees and, of course, the ocean. Clean, comfortable and well stocked for cooking inside.
