BC Apart 1 - Charming Apartment in City Center - Close to Rhine and Old Town

Clean, spacious and modern apartment in a perfect location for exploring Basel. Our family of 4 had an amazing stay. The small patio was lovely, and our kids loved seeing the neighbour’s bunnies in the back yard. There are supermarkets, parks and playgrounds within a short walk, and easy tram connections to the train station and other areas of the city. We would happily stay again.

I always like to start a review on a positive note, so what are the positives about BC Apart 1 in Basil City (BC). Well, there are many. The apartment appears to have been recently and totally renovated, in fact I’m sure I detected a slight odour of fresh paint when we first entered. It is very modern, all white of course, with a large kitchen full of quality (Miele) white appliances, endless white cupboards, cooktop and oven, fridge and separate freezer, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, and a full collection of quality crockery, glassware and cutlery for 4+ people. Nothing to criticise there. The kitchen is part of the usual modern, integrated apartment, with a small dining area and a comfortable sofa bed for guests 3 and 4 (unless you are lucky enough to be on your own.) The usual wall mounted TV, but you are on vacation so hopefully television is not on your entertainment radar. The bedroom is large, with a comfortable bed, plenty of wardrobe space for your clothes, although an additional clothes hanging facility is available in the small entrance area, for the lady that needs to wear something different at least twice every day! There is a small patio opening out from the bedroom, where you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon drink, whilst watching the weeds grow in the small, “el naturel” garden and the two black pet rabbits frolicking in their pen. The bathroom cum laundry is again reasonably spacious, with new quality Miele washing machine and dryer (best of luck working out how to use them from the machine graphics and German text.) Integral bath and shower and plenty of hot water and towels. The apartment is also very well located, within walking distance (1km) of the railway station or 1 stop on the tram. Within a few hundred metres you will be on the banks of the River Rhine, and few more will take you into the old part of the city.

Well in most of the apartments we have booked during our many years of travelling, a standard and essential feature has always been the “Apartment Information Book”, that lists everything about the apartment, how to use the equipment, the WiFi access, transport options, tourist features, supermarkets and chemists, restaurants etc. BC Apart 1 does provide a “Wilkommen Im BC Apart One” which appears to list some of this information, but it is all written in GERMAN, not overly helpful to us English speakers (thank heaven for Google Translate.) So here are a couple of hopefully helpful tips: the Wifi access details are displayed in a framed wall hanging in the entrance foyer, and the electrical points in the apartment are interestingly different, but adapters and charging cables are available in the drawer under the oven. Best of luck with the Miele laundry appliances and don’t forget Google Translate. Lighting in the living area could be improved. A floor lamp provided did not appear to work in any power point. We would also suggest providing a mat for the shower-bath to improve visitor safety.

Alles sehr sauber, viel Platz, schlicht und schön mit allem was man braucht. Die grosse moderne Küche ist sehr praktisch eingerichtet. Da kocht man gerne. Kleine Sitzmöglichkeit draussen vor dem Schlafzimmer. Sehr bequemes Bett und angenehme Beleuchtung. Hervorragende Lage nah an Tram Haltestellen und mehrere Einkaufsmöglichkeiten in Laufdistanz. Nah beim Fluss, Bars, Restaurants, verschiedene Pärke und in Laufdistanz vom Zentrum. Vor der Haustüre ist ein kleiner Park mit Tisch und Bänke. Sehr ruhig in der Nacht und auch am Tag. Sehr nette und verlässliche Gastgeberin. Danke! Bei Bedarf komme ich sehr gerne wieder!
