The Swan Inn

Breakfast was ok. The evening restaurant meal was excellent. A fascinating dining space and attentive but relaxed staff and delicious food. So good to feel relaxed and unhurried.

Our bedroom overlooked the air vents from the kitchen. The background noise was always there but didn’t disturb our sleep on a very warm night with the window open.

We love the Swan, for its food, setting and ambience. This is the first time we've stayed, which was in the Turner room - this is a beautiful two floor room, with an outdoor space. Very clean, private and generally glorious. We had dinner over two nights, as always the food is really very good, as is the selection on the wine list. The staff are super friendly too, so overall a very pleasant experience.

We just felt that from a service perspective, that it's missing the finishing touches.There's a lot of young staff members, who whilst friendly enough, I feel could benefit from more senior management helping out. For example, we ordered a relatively expensive bottle of wine on the first night, which was plonked on the table in the cooler, the staff member then strolled off. At breakfast the following day, admittedly we arrived near 10am, but the buffet area hadn't been replenished, so we had the enviable choice of a couple of pieces of fruit, a yoghurt or two and the end of a loaf of bread. Oh and no glasses to pour into with what was left of the juices. Coffee arrived eventually, sans spoons and sugar, and I paid £9 for poached egg on toast, which was without any fanfare...literally two eggs plonked on a piece of toast. Ouch. Not meaning to moan, but I think as pubs/hotels hire staff on their summer break, there really should be presence from a more senior member of staff, as the prices we pay aren't insignificant.

The pub is beautiful, loved all the history and art work combined with modern luxury.
