Pinewood Lodge

Simple process to collect keys

The weather was wet upon arrival, but, the host can't do much about that

Located in the scenic Avon River Valley, the accommodation is in an idyllic location with fabulous views and good access to the surrounding countryside. It is the perfect location for hiking and cycling in south Dartmoor. It is also a short drive to Totnes, which has lots of great restaurants and cafes. We stayed in the Monk's Restaurant cabin, which is spacious and has everything required for a weekend stay. The hosts were very attentive and fixed a malfunctioning coffee machine at very short notice.

I found the listing on Booking.com confusing as I thought we were staying at Pinewood Lodge but instead ended up in Monk's Rest. This happened because I selected the luxury king sized studio option. The majority of photos show the more luxuriously decorated Pinewood Lodge. I chose this option because I thought there would be a king sized bed when in fact it is just an ordinary double. I guess it pays to read the small print!

Lovely, spacious apartment. Wonderful views from the small balcony. Great shower and comfortable living space. Everything you need for a stress free stay, dishwasher, washing machine etc. Dog friendly with wooded area to the front ( be mindful of the open wire fence around the rear balcony if you have a curious, small dog! ). Clean, comfortable bed. Towels provided although you may need to bring extra if staying longer. We loved the location. The lanes to the property are narrow but quiet, we didn’t meet another car during our stay. Overall we throughly enjoyed our weekend break at Abbots Rest.

Excellent view from the property.

There were a few little things that would have helped to make the welcome, the accommodation and the access better, and the stay more comfortable.
