Franz Alpine Retreat- Cottage

Die Unterkunft ist einfach, aber gut gelegen. Für einen kurzen Aufenthalt gut geeignet.

It was a good location near the town and the main attractions, mountains and glacier. The accommodation was comfortable and roomy with good facilities, although I'm sure a sauna would have been attractive in winter.

It was over-priced compared with our other stays in NZ, but still had all we needed for a one night stay in late summer. No garaging for the car which could be an issue in the winter, unless parking under a nearby tree!

Spacious, clean and great location.

It was clean, with a good shower.

It was extremely basic, lacking any comfortable touches, like subtle lighting, cushions etc. Crockery, cutlery and towels were restricted to one item per person. I sat on a wooden chair outside and got splinters in my clothing. No one was at reception to complain to. I resented warning notices threatening us with penalties if we failed to comply with certain rules. The standard fell far below accommodation I usually stay in and I am currently staying in a luxurious property elsewhere that is charging only slightly more.
