Canal St Martin Miss Dodu

The property is perfectly located and decorated with so much personality that makes it such a pleasant stay. There were all the necessities we needed for our stay,from kitchen to bathroom supplies. The host thought of everything. It was exceptionally clean also.

There are no windows to the street however the courtyard right outside makes up for that, and we could get fresh air and natural sunlight any time.

Was exactly as described, we appreciated all the amenities. Hygiene and cleanliness is always something as a top priority and it exceeded our expectations. A lovely apartment with great communication for any concerns we had.

No hot water in the kitchen was a bit of an inconvenience but this was already stated in the description. Privacy wasn’t a concern but the apartment was near a crowded establishment, got a little noisy at night, shutters were available to put down which did improve the noise - however just something to consider.

Sehr schöne und zentral gelegene Wohnung. Günstiger Parkplatz in unmittelbarer Nähe der Wohnung in der Tiefgarage des Krankenhauses. Restaurant Salle a manger 2.0 direkt vor der Wohnung hat sehr gutes Essen :-) und Virginie ist eine sehr zuvorkommende und sehr freundliche Vermieterin!

The location is good and seems safe. It's not touristy at all, but it doesn't have much charm either. It's a five-minute walk to Colonel Fabien metro, and there is a bus stop across the street. There are convenient grocery, patisserie, and restaurants. Canal St Martin is a few blocks away. The shower was good and the kitchen was complete and useful, except as noted below. The beds were OK, and the wifi was very good. The price seemed reasonable. (This wouldn't fit in the "didn't like" space) The big disappointment and problem is that it is not a "two bedroom" apartment as the listing asserts. It is a fairly large studio (living space and bed in the same room), connected by the second "bedroom" which is actually a small hallway, to the bathroom at the other end of the apartment. This means that occupants of the studio have to walk through the "second bedroom" to the bathroom. This is OK for some situations like close family, but not so great for unrelated travel companions who would like more privacy, or who have different sleeping schedules.

The large room abuts the sidewalk on the other side of the frosted glass windows you see in the photos. Outside the glass, there is a metal roll-down shutter you can control. So you can choose between bright, warm (it's west-facing), and noisy, or dark and a bit quieter. There is not one window that opens in the entire place, so no ventilation,  and this glass wall is the only source of outside light (and noise and heat). The bar next door is noisy until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. We expected that from previous reviews, but on the night of Paris's football victory there were also fireworks. Check your calendar if you're a light sleeper. Weeknights were quiet. There was only one set of towels, and that's not enough for a stay of a week. There is no welcome guide explaining appliances, nearby businesses, transit and such. There is no TV, if that matters to you. We don't use them for entertainment much, but we do like to view YouTube videos of places we are about to visit. There is no hot water in the kitchen because it has never been installed. (They are not "on it," they will just tell you of "technical problems.") I don't know if Paris has building codes and inspection, but this kitchen has never passed if they do. But here is the big thing: the AC is a portable DeLonghi unit from 2015 and it doesn't work at all. Virginie was quick to respond and attempt to get it going, but the air it emitted was never more than 2 degrees F lower than the room temperature, and it was completely unsuccessful in cooling the room. It is showing an error code that means "service required." And we got the usual "oh, we don't need AC in Paris until July" thing, but that's not the point. We booked this place because of a medical need for coolness, and it could not be provided. Fortunately, we visited in early June and it wasn't very warm yet.
