Terraza Wow Teide & Gomera

Wonderful host who couldn't have been more responsive, helpful and generous - before, during and after our stay - but, at the same time, wasn't remotely intrusive (as some are!). Excellent location, just a couple of minutes from the main square, which then leads to one of several beaches; there's a supermarket and patisserie in the same complex, and the bus stops and taxi rank are right outside: we managed to visit places near and far using public transport, so it's definitely doable without a car. Alcala is quiet (certainly in September) and untouristy, but that's what we wanted, and, if you're looking for a wider choice of bars and restaurants and a more overtly 'holiday vibe', Los Gigantes and San Juan, for eg, are just 5-10 minutes away (again, by bus). The apartment itself is spacious and very comfortable, and has all the facilities you could possibly need (the kitchen and bathrooms are particularly well equipped), and, obviously, the terrace is superb. The view of the sea is slightly obscured by a screen bordering the neighbouring terrace, but that of the mountains, including Teide, more than compensates: truly spectacular, especially in the mornings, with the clouds hanging low. You even get the bonus of a visiting cat! Great value, even with just two of us; better still with more!

I found the twin beds in the top bedroom slightly hard, but that's very much a matter of taste. There's a building site just across the road, although no work was going on there (and got the impression that none had for some time), so it wasn't an issue of noise; it's just not the prettiest thing. But, if you keep looking up at the mountains, you won't even notice it!
