Grade II Listed Cottage in Central Taunton

The property was just what we expected from the booking and photos, so no problem there, it was a lovely cottage. It was ideally situated in the town and close to the cricket ground and the Ring of Bells - so we were very happy. The facilities were good with everything you needed in the kitchen if dining in and long-term staying, but there were so many great restaurants around we ate out!

There wasn't any showers gel provided and shampoo and conditioner would have been a nice touch as these things always add weight to one's luggage. There were only 2x loo rolls provided for a 4 night stay and 3 people! Having run an Airbnb, milk and water in the fridge was always appreciated on arrival!

Location was excellent right within the town centre although the actual property was fairly innocuous when trying to find it for the first time. It has a lovely coffee shop next door and there are plenty of places to eat and drink within walking distance. It is also within easy walking distance of the cricket ground although the train station is probably about 20 minutes walk away. The kitchen had everything you could need and the lounge area was very comfortable. Fans etc were provided for comfort during a hot summer period.

Some areas of the property are in need of some TLC but it has a rustic feel overall so those don’t stand out like a sore thumb. The second bedroom isn’t really a room it is just a screened off area on the landing. The stairs are a little awkward and may be an issue for anyone with mobility issues. The property is in a fairly built up area so even though it has some outside space it isn’t particularly private.

No downstairs toilet. Steep stairs with vertical handrail so I needed great care, but I am 72 so it’s not a problem for the young. Would have been so much better if there was a person to meet and greet. No early check in was allowed and communication was limited to message system on Booking.com
