Lochranza Centre CIC

The room had its own bathroom & was clean, tidy and a reasonable size for 3 people. The communal kitchen & lounge were spacious & comfortable & all the people staying there respected the rules & kept it clean & tidy.

Good location for the castle, distillery, and small ferry terminal back to the mainland.

Very basic although that was expected. Reception only open for 1 hour in the evening, so we had to find the room and check ourselves in even arriving at 19:00. I didn’t realise there was a lounge area until after we’d left. We booked a twin room but were given an 8 person bunk-bed room which had a bathroom the other end of the building.

État d'esprit et gentillesse des hebergeur, salles collectives pour les repas et le repos, dortoir 4 pzrsonnes agréable et spacieux en comparaison avec d'autres auberges. Lieu très convivial pouvait-elle de belles rencontres avec d'autres voyageurs. Très bons conseils pour les randonnées et les activités sur l'île.

Rien à reprocher !

Lochranza is the perfect place to stay in Arran, less busy than the South-East of the island - scenery is dramatic, it's a short walk down to the bay, the distillery is next door, and it seems to be a good starting point for longer hikes (we were with an 8yo, so just did a couple of hours round the coast and back over the hill). Hostal is well-organized, with a very good information room (geology, mainly). The en-suite room was quiet, and the hostal wasn't busy while we were there. Easy parking, and it was easy enough to gain access despite there being no staff on duty. (There's no phone reception here, so screenshot the instructions before setting out. The WiFi password is on the exterior door at reception, failing that).

The corridors had a distinctive smell of damp. The room was fine (if a little dark), but a decent place to spend the night. It's not really the centre's fault, but the kitchen was smelly too. Basic cereals, fruit and milk are provided (with some older bottles still 'maturing' in the fridge!). Plenty of midges outside, as you might expect, so bring repellent.
