旅籠俵屋

Centrally located in the middle of Magome historical stretch. A very spacious house that could probably fit 8 (?) but we were 2. :) The staff was very friendly and professional. Picked us up from Nakatsugawa train station (we sent a message when we were on the train there from Nagoya). House was very clean and rooms and bathroom were enormous. Very private even though on main street. We pre-ordered dinner in & it was lovely & fun with a very elaborate bento. We left the next morning, continuing our Nakasendo walk right from the door step. (We headed for Tsumago and slightly beyond the Nojiri station - 18km, doable with lunch stop in Tsumago). Sleeping robes (very nice!) were provided, as well as every amenity one needs for overnights. We slept supremely well (though possibly because it was our first night after a long travel day). Highly recommended for anyone and groups.

The location on the main road in Magome was magical. We loved the traditional house. Everything was well appointed and very nice and clean. The person who was our contact during our stay, Gai, was exceptional. He was an excellent communicator and took time to answer our questions about the area. The ride to and from the train station was also wonderful.

We would still give it a super high rating... but for our tall bodies a more dense futon would have been more comfortable to sleep on.

What can I say but wow! What an honour and a privilege to stay in this beautiful traditional house right on the Nakasendo way in the magical village of Magome-Juku. We were welcomed at the station with such hospitality. They were very gracious even though I had muddled some of the arrangements. Sumimasen! We felt like we had stepped back in time to the shogun era. Views of the mountains everywhere and also glimpses of the picturesque streets but all within the sheltered privacy of the house. Amenities were all of a high quality and generous. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. We had beautiful meals delivered to the house and sat down at the traditional table to eat. Thank you Tarawaya!
