The Paramount Houghton

The location is perfect, quiet neighbourhood, excellent security, aesthetically pleasing; it looks exactly as advertised. The gentleman (I forgot his name) gave us a warm welcome; he was truly helpful and very friendly. The cleaning ladies were always prompt, very friendly also.

There is no full-body mirror, the other room does not have an air conditioner and no extra blanket. Tried asking for it but never got it.

Bright, clean and secure apartment, convenient for our needs.

Unfortunately loud and thundering music from the apartment next door. The bedroom with the adjoining wall was noisy until 1am on our first two nights and 2am on our final night. We had to sleep with noise cancelling headphones! Two of the bathroom towels were thin and flimsy. No hangers (would be useful) and only two bowls for breakfast.

Location was great. The concierge and security was friendly and helpful.

This is not an ideal apartment for a long stay. Kitchen not adequately equipped if wanting to prepare and cook own meals. Very few cooking utensils and cheap looking pots and crockery. We accidently broke a glass tumbler and were charged R219.00 to replace it!! We paid R450.00 for an early check-in, was told it would take 30min to get the apartment ready. We decided to go shop for some groceries, ended up returning at the actual 3pm check-in time to find the apartment was still not ready. The apartment tiled throughout, however in Winter some rugs would have been welcomed. The bed mattress was extremely hard as were the pillows. We asked for a winter duvet as the one provided was very thin and designed for Summer. This never arrived. We asked for a salad bowl, this too never arrived. Ended up eating our salads out of the cheap cooking pots. The toilet in the main bedroom had a faulty flush mechanism. The cabinetry around the fridge is poorly designed, meaning every time you open the fridge a wooden door slides across in front of the fridge forcing you to first close this door before you can close the fridge. No dimmer switches for the lights, so once in bed and reading a book, you have to then get up and switch off the main light. No bedside tables or lamps in the main bedroom. There were no features such as soaps or shampoo and absolutely no basics such as milk or sugar. The towels provided were cheap and thin and they provided us with 1ply toilet paper. Disappointing!
