About this cottage rental

The gîte is situated in the Loire-et-Cher area of France about 5 kilometres from the picturesque medieval town of Saint Aignan-sur-Cher. In the gîte you will find a double bedroom with child's cot and travel cot and a twin bedded room with floor mattress, both with panoramic views over the large garden. The living room has a TV, settee and electric heating for the winter months. A DVD player, adult's and children's books and various indoor games. The integral kitchen is well equipped with the usual appliances; microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, hob oven and fridge.The dining area can seat 6 people plus a high-chair. There is a shower room and a separate toilet. There is also a washing machine and ironing board. Outside you will find a large garden, for your sole use, with a childrens playhouse, boules, garden furniture and a barbecue for outdoor eating. A push chair is available.

We had a great stay in the gite. The garden was wonderfull and the family was very friendly. The location of the gîte is great; nice and quit but still not far away from visiting sites. We visited beauval zoo (magnificent!), Blois, Selles sur Cher etc. Our children, 7, 2, 2 slept very well in their own cosy room. We ourselves bumped our heads a few times on the first floor (the doors are not made for tall dutch folk :-)) Wifi was not always at its best, but the owners did their best tot sort it out with the internet provider. We hope to see you again sometime Nigel and Andrea. Thanks for a splendid few days.

Our stay in Chatillon-sur-Cher was wonderful. The renovated property far surpassed our expectations. We like to do most of our own cooking and the kitchen in this beautiful home was excellent. The location is perfect for touring the Chateaux and for shopping for our meals. The beautiful garden was a relaxing spot for us after a day of touring and the local wineries provided some excellent refreshments. Andrea and Nigel were the perfect hosts.

The house is cosy and well equipped. The garden is large and it's a great playground for children. Everything you need you can find in the house, like coffee and tea, toiletpaper, towels, washing liquid etc. The house is located in a small village Les Mardelles with almost no traffic. Nice English owners. Very central for trips to the castles and the cities Bourges and Tours. We loved our stay here!

Great place to stay, lovely and very clean cottage, large garden for kids to play, Kate and her parents make you feel comfortable. We had some Gites in France, but this one was by far the cleanest. We highly recommend to stay there, when you want to spend time in the Loire Valley area.

Un très bon accueil de kate et de ses parents. La maison est spacieuse, tout est neuf et très propre et fonctionnelle avec tous les équipements nécessaires. La literie est très confortable, la chambre parentale énorme et la déco est agréable. Ils pensent à tous les détails ; la cuisine est équipée de tout le nécessaire, sel, poivre, thé etc...On est tout prêt du zoo de beauval. Il y a un jardin dehors avec des balancoires et une petite cabane que nos enfants ont bien appréciée ! A préciser que le jardin est commun avec les propriétaires qui habitent dans la maison mitoyenne.

Wonderful holiday

We enjoyed an outstanding holiday at Chez Chèvre. The buildings have been impressively and sympathetically restored using traditional techniques to provide an immaculate, comfortable, well-equipped base for exploring the central and eastern Loire Valley. We received the warmest of welcomes from the Collom family. Nothing was too much trouble throughout our two-week stay. Our two (small-ish) dogs seemed to enjoy the house and the huge garden almost as much as we did. We went out and about every day, finding the property a perfect base for walks and for exploring the region. St Aignan, just down the road, is a lovely little medieval town. Try the restaurant on the bridge as you enter the town - good food at a fair price. Another favourite was Le Café de la Gaieté at nearby Chémery: only 12 Euros for a three-course lunch (incl. wine) of good, traditional cooking. The show-stopper chateaux are of course a must-see: Chambord (magnificent, if pompous), Chenonceaux (a total delight) etc. etc. But what we especially enjoyed were the smaller, rather run-down houses that are struggling to make ends meet. Rather like so many houses in England before the National Trust stepped in. We learned that Selles-sur-Cher is being rescued by Chinese money (how the world turns!), while Chémery is making a precarious and unlikely living through bed-and-breakfast. Chémery is worth the price of admission if only to read the owners' vituperative notes castigating obstructive local councillors and officials as 'viperish' incompetent idiots. Pure 'Clochemerle'! I could go on but I'll spare you. In summary, if you are considering Chez Chèvre for a stay, don't hesitate - just do it! You won't find better. Alison and Chris Day

Nous avons eu la chance de profiter de ce gite pendant un court séjour de 3 nuits et cela s'est fort bien passé. Le gîte est bien conçu et on y trouve tout le nécessaire ! De plus, le jardin est très agréable même si la météo ne nous a pas permis d'en profiter réellement ! Nous y reviendrons avec plaisir !

A lovely cottage in the countryside

We rented the property for two weeks in September 2014. The cottage is located in a very small village in the countryside. It is very clean, well equipped, and on the ground floor it contains a large living room with a fully fitted kitchen. Upstairs you will find two beedrooms, a large one and a smaller one. Family fun and relaxation

The property was beautiful - just as the pictures show - and very well equipped. It was comfortable and calm, and more importantly it had an amazing garden perfect for little people (esp. the tea party in the playhouse!). The children had a great time and we all had a wonderful few days. So close to so many gorgeous historical sites but the kids enjoyed the zoo (and the pandas!) the most. Nous avons passé un très agréable séjour dans ce gîte très bien situé géographiquement. Il est parfaitement équipé, rien ne manque et tout est parfaitement entretenu. Les propriétaires sont très accueillants et discrets. Les enfants ont apprécié le jardin même s'ils n'ont pas pu en profiter pleinement (cause : météo), se cacher dans la cabane, quel plaisir! We had a fantastic stay at this Loire house! It was everything we imagined, and more. It is in a wonderful location - off the beaten path, but close to many beautiful chateaux, Loire scenery, and beautiful medieval towns, such as Amboise, Montrichard, St. Aignan, etc. The owners have provided for every comfort, including internet access, lots of hot water, drip coffeemaker, comfortable beds, quiet evenings & starry skies at night, and beautiful gardens and fields nearby to explore by foot or bike. After a full day of exploring the surrounding area, we looked forward to coming "home" to cook a meal, drink wine and savor local cheeses, while sitting outside and enjoying the "frenchness" of it all. Kate, Andrea & Nigel - we really enjoyed meeting you and we thank you for our wonderful memories of your hospitality. You were flawless in your arrangements for our week's stay, thanks to your prompt & excellent communication. Without hesitation, we would recommend your place to friends and family, knowing they would enjoy their stay just as much as we did. We rented this lovely cottage for one week in the middle of July. Because we arrived on a national Sunday and the supermarkets were closed, the owner told us in advance and was so kind to do some shopping for us. We (two adults, two children aged 2y and 9 months) had a good week. A huge garden, with a toy house, a barbeque and a vegetable garden with we could use as well. House was clean, wi-fi worked well, there was a buggy for the baby, so really nothing to complain about. Only disadvantage is that the nearest bakery is 2km away, but we knew that in advance Could recommend to anyone.

At first the many 5 star reviews of this cottage made me a little suspicious: had these reviews been manipulated? After staying in the cottage for two fantastic weeks my conclusion is: the enthousiasm is justified, the cottage is close to perfect. Highly recommended! The house is comfortable and cosy and well equipped, the garden is even more beautiful than the pictures suggest. We (2 parents and 2 teenagers) spent many relaxing hours in the shaded arbor in the garden. The beautiful castles of Loire and Cher are close, and during hot days the children enjoyed swimming in the Cher at St. Aignan. And luckily we had beautiful weather. Even our dog liked the stay and protected the cottage against our kind host (sorry about that!), Many thanks to Kate and her parents for their hospitality.

Die Wohnung liegt auf einem als Erholungsgrundstück geschmackvoll gestalteten ehemaligen Bauernhof. Es gibt eine sehr große Wiese und einen kleinen Gemüsegarten. Die Wohnungseinrichtung ist modern und komfortabel, alles sehr stilvoll und mit viel Liebe eingerichtet. Die kleine Dorfstraße hinter dem Haus ist kaum befahren. Es ist also sehr ruhig und alles lädt dazu ein, die Seele baumeln zu lassen. Von den britischen Besitzern wurden wir sehr warm und freundlich empfangen und betreut. Viele Sehenswürdigkeiten des Loiretals sind mit dem Auto schnell zu erreichen. Fazit für uns: Nahezu perfekt!

A lovely spot. Very clean, tidy, well maintained, well equipped, and exactly as described. Though only 100 yds from main road it is very quiet and you don't know the road is there, but obviously it gives quick and easy access. A very convenient base for touring the area with good local amenities nearby. All the sights and attractions you could want are within an hour maximum, with plenty to see and do much nearer. We were made very welcome by Kate, who couldn't have been more helpful. Only minor drawback we encountered was that when summer decided to arrive for a couple of days while we were there, while it was glorious outside the bedroom did become very hot. We got hold of a cheap electric fan at the supermarket, which helped no end, but perhaps one could be provided? Only a minor quibble which did nothing to spoil what was a most relaxing and enjoyable break. If you want hustle and bustle and busy city life (why would you?), go somewhere else. If you want to relax at your own pace and go wherever you want, this is just the place for you.

If you want peace, tranquility and very friendly hosts...... look no further than Chez Chevre. Perfectly positioned in the beautiful Loire, you would find it very difficult to beat. Spacious well equiped accomadation, with every thing you need.... including bicycles, barbecue and an amazing spacious gardens, perfect for children and adults alike. Well positioned for the vineyards and chateau's and handily placed between two lovely french towns, St Aignan and Selles -sur- Cher, both have large supermarkets and a selection of restaurants and other facilities, including Markets. Also very useful railway stations in both towns which allow you to explore the area between the very interesting cities of Bourges and Tours if you want a break from driving. A really great place with the ribbon on the parcel being the very friendly and helpful hosts who live just a few minutes away............ My wife and I vow that on our Holidays we never go back to the same place twice, for fear of missing a new adventure, but I'm pretty sure we will be breaking that vow and returning in the not too distant future!!

A great location for visiting the Chateaux de la Loire, and a comfortable, well-equiped cottage. Too bad we didn't have good weather to be able to take advantage of the outdoor eating/barbecue facilities. Impeccably clean and so nice to have towels, sheets and necessities like salt, sugar, coffee, etc. provided to avoid having to make beds and run out to do shopping right upon arrival. You need a car but then to visit the castles, anywhere you stay that is pretty much a must. Highly recommend this rental for families.

Our family of 4 (2 boys 8 and 6) stayed at Chez Chevre in May/June for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nigel and Andrea have done a fantastic job of newly renovating the old farm buildings and grounds into a wonderful setting for a holiday. Character accommodation with full, clean facilities, spacious grounds and a very warm welcome from our hosts. Great location/base for exploring the stunning Touraine vineyards, Cher & Loire rivers, Canal du Berry and very handy for St Aignan/Noyers centre. Recommend doing the vineyard/chateau bike tours south of Blois (stopping at a few vineyards for refreshment!). A real gem to have discovered and we will definately be back. Thanks Nigel and Andrea
