The room size was comfortable for solo traveler and well equipped and completed by parking and food stores

My recent stay at Southern Tip Hotel was unfortunately below expectations, mainly due to cleanliness and service issues during check-in. Upon entering the room on the first day, I noticed several strands of hair on the bed, including a long hair underneath the blanket. After checking further, I also found an insect crawling under the blanket, which was concerning. I politely approached the front desk to request a room change if another room was available, as I had booked a single room. However, the receptionist’s response felt dismissive and unprofessional. Instead of understanding the situation, the initial response was questioning how a room change could be made since I had already “used” the room facilities. After showing photos and videos of the issue, I was offered another room. However, the receptionist repeatedly warned me about stains in the toilet and implied that I might complain again. While the replacement room did have visible stains on the toilet floor, it was at least cleaner overall and the bed condition was much more acceptable. I understand that this hotel is priced slightly lower compared to some nearby accommodations. However, basic cleanliness and professional customer service should still be maintained regardless of price point. As a male solo traveler, I have stayed in many budget accommodations before and have never encountered such dismissive behavior when politely raising a genuine concern. The interaction significantly affected the overall experience, as the situation could have been handled with more professionalism and empathy. Cleanliness and housekeeping standards definitely need improvement. Even some of the coffee and tea packets appeared stained, and the provided shampoo and body wash were overly diluted and little, to the point that I decided to purchase my own toiletries from a nearby ECO shop. That said, the hotel does have some positives. The location is convenient, within walking distance to Tambak Pontian and close to eateries, shops, and the morning market. There is also a McDonald’s beside the hotel, parking is available, and water refill station is provided for guests. The WiFi and air conditioning worked well during my stay, and I was also able to borrow a hairdryer from the reception. Apparently, there is a free washer and dryer service available as well, although I did not personally use it. Pontian itself was enjoyable, with good local food, a relaxing seaside atmosphere, and easy access around town. Overall, while the location and affordability are reasonable, the cleanliness and customer service issues mean I would not return for another stay. Housekeeping needs improvement.
