Dormy Inn Aomori Natural Hot Spring

Hotel feels very clean and new. Staffs are friendly and wifi is good. I really enjoyed the breakfast and free apple juice a lot!

We checked in and were given a room that absolutely reeked of human urine on the 10th floor. I immediately called staff to check as there was no way we would be paying close to *** for 2 nights in a place that smelled like a urine palace. They made a fake nod of the head ‘sorry’ and then gave us a choice of 1 other rooms on the same floor. It smelled like urine. I told her no way and that it is unacceptable and she told me ‘there are no other available rooms and they are all booked up’ in Aomori, a hotel with 12 floors I couldn’t believe these were the only ones available at 3pm check in. I was irritated, and started looking on my own for other potential places to stay, as the rooms shown to us on the 10th floor were awful. Magically another room opened up again on the 10th floor, again urine. I said no. No way for the price nope nope nope. She barely gave any apology -I would frankly be embarrassed, for concealing the truth about the availability of the rooms, for the smell of the rooms, for not offering any consolation. Magically, again, another room opened up on a different floor, again unacceptable smell. I said no again and was about to tell her we will stay somewhere else and just refund us. She tried to say it was the AC unit (which was not even turned on) and then finally MAGICALLY-you’ll never guess. ANOTHER ROOM OPENED UP , she said she was showing us rooms on the seaside , and that must be the smell, and this room that magically appeared was the mountainside. What a fool I am-i should have known this was a seaside problem. I have lived right next to the sea before and never have had a human urine smell to deal with. The ‘mountainside’ room had the AC running when we got there and had been sprayed with a room spray. It faintly smelled like an old person, but I will take that over straight up urine palace any day. I asked for the manager and then was told he could only speak Japanese and she was ‘so sorry.’ Ridiculous. I said, that’s ok, I’ll take his card, please. As manager, I’d want to be aware of the smells coming from my rooms and the fakeness of the staff. This has been our worst stay yet, in our 4 trips to Japan thus far. The manager came directly and we used a translator app. He seemed ambivalent, but did apologize if the staffs apology didn’t seem sincere. Okay. Anyway, would not recommend this place for the money it should 100% cost less. In USD this is a lot to ask in general for this place and in Aomori imo. The location is nice, central to most things you’d want to walk to or fairly close by. You’re a few minutes from the subway if you want to do that and the bus line is right there as well. I’m sorry to leave a review like this, but it was nasty. Maybe this is a secret of Aomori- pee palace. I will compliment the actual bathroom though, it was one of the CLEANEST bathrooms ever. No mold, no male urine smell, amazing! Maybe they saved all the pee for the carpet?

Disappointed as was very specific to have the room cleaned when out during the day yet it was not done when returned. Had to call reception and make the same request but at that time no proper room cleaning could be provided
