Terrace at Old San Juan

Situated in the heart of Old San Juan. Lovely apartment. Beautiful outdoor living space.

In order to access this apartment, you have to climb a narrow metal spiral staircase at least 12 feet tall which was difficult for at least one person in our group. Just carrying our carryons up those stairs was tight and precarious. We also did not have any hot water. We only stayed one night so I don’t know if this is typical or not.

Location and plenty space for my whole family.

The cleaning fee and taxes are expensive

The location was spectacular! It couldn't have been in a better place. It' walking distance to EVERYTHING! We had a car and used it to get to newer parts that we visited last year like Condada.

When we got there, much to our surprise the spiral staircase was necessary to enter the unit itself! From the pictures I thought it was on the inside of the unit, so the youngest person in the group could use it and we wouldn't have to. I understood that this unit was on the 3rd floor but I didn't know the spiral was a part of getting there. So getting our luggage in was a challenge we all had 3 pcs each! Honestly if it wasn't as late as it was I would have scrapped the stay, but we couldn't. The internet never worked. The firewall was so thick it wouldn't even allow us to use the tv ie:Netflix and Youtube were blocked. When on a computer you could got to google but not much more. Fortunately we had our hotspots and were able to use those for everything. We managed, later during the stay we realized something was biting us every time we sat on the sofa. The first night we noticed there were stains on the blanket in the master so we couldn't us it. Fortunately there was another available. The pillows on the terrace had mold on them from the weather. There were ants in the kitchen (they did provide spray). Another thing that made us a little uneasy was when you look out the window on the interior of the unit you are staring into the bedroom of another unit, and from the hallway you have a clear view of a bathtub for a lower unit. You can also hear them enter and exit as well as whole conversations. Lastly, if you turn off the air conditioning the overwhelming smell of mildew will run you out of there! I will add that when we were looking for the "old world charm", we may have just bitten off more than we could chew easily. If you are used to this environment it might be for you, but if you are a city dweller it is a culture shock.
