I’ll list all of the good and the bad to be fair. The property is in the Escalante neighborhood which is pretty safe. There’s a park across the street and multiple indoor/outdoor common areas that I enjoyed. In the female dorm I believe all of the beds had a charger. Coffee and water available every day. I met some nice visitors in the hostel. Warm water in the showers (just try not to change the settings). Quite a few people had long term stays and were experiencing adverse life situations. Because of this I respect the hostel for making themselves available to those who really need a safe and affordable place to stay. They also operate other hostels in the area. This would not be my first choice for a stay but if it’s what you can afford then just expect to get what you paid for.

You’re up-charged if you don’t pay by cash. The property is oddly both clean and dirty. The ladies do clean every single day in the morning but there are little things like leaks in the female bathroom, limited dishes that result in one or two cockroaches crawling around, etc that make the cleanliness standard below par. I stayed for a week so similarly to other reviewers I initially found the staff to be kind of cold and off putting, but over time they were friendlier. If you pay for breakfast you need to request it be served to you from the ladies, and honestly when I initially asked for mine they questioned me and made me feel like I was trying to steal even though I paid. To be fair, this place has an excellent nightly rate which probably results in some not so great visitors coming around. There’s lots of noise that comes from across the street at the park at nighttime, and you can’t close the windows in the dorm to drown the noise. Sometimes the owner comes into the women’s dorm at nighttime and is pretty loud when he does so. So if you’re weary about having men entering the female space, especially at night, I would not recommend this stay.
