Nichts besonderes

The location is excellent, close to the bustling centre of Mohandessin but in a quiet side street. The apartment itself is extremely large, with a huge living area, three spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen large enough to eat in.

An awful lot of details were not as good as they should be for an apartment of this quality. When we got there, three of the four kitchen chairs were broken and unusable. The kitchen was remarkably poorly equipped, notably with a complete absence of table knives and only two decent sized mugs. There was no kitchen towel for wiping off dishes, no brash for cleaning pans, and no dishcloth for cleaning surfaces. Some of the kitchen units looked extremely worn and were partially repaired with duck tape. Meanwhile only two very small towels were provided for the entire apartment. The bedrooms were consigned to almost total darkness all day, as we couldn’t manage to open the external shutters - obviously useful in great heat but an encumbrance in winter weather. Most seriously, for a cold snap(not unknown in Cairo in February), there was virtually no heating (just a tumbledown plug in radiator in one of the bedrooms). This was despite the website listing heating as a facility. We bought some bath sheet towels ourselves. The owner did respond quite quickly to some of our concerns, though more with promises than with actual remedies during our eight day stay. The kitchen chairs were repaired in time for our last day, only for us to find that they tipped over backwards when we sat on them. This is all a shame because with details like these sorted out, the apartment could be brilliant.
