Booked last minute, so had a family room to myself. Room is at the back of the hotel, external access by its own door. Once you're in, there is another door, but significantly shorter than a standard door, which being tall meant I smacked my head a lot. That aside, room looked OK, though being ground floor with 30 degrees heat and the main pub garden outside, not brilliant as you couldn't just leave your windows open and no fan was provided. It was when I walked into the bathroom and noted that there were hairs, long dark hairs, on the floor and back end of the bath. Then found a hair clip on the floor. The bath had seen better days and there was a used bar of soap left on the side. The towels looked liked they had been washed so many times there was barely any fluff left. In the bedroom, the floor was covered in dust around the tables and under the bed, and it appeared that somebody had Coco pops and dropped them on the floor, which sat between the crack in the floorboards. That aside, the mattress was ok and the TV picked up more than one channel. Everything was good until about 2am, when I heard something that sounded like wood being chewed. Underneath the floor was some form of rodent trying to get through, possibly to get the tasty Coca pops. Putting the light on scared it for a while, but it can back. Banging the floor got rid of it the 1st night, but 2nd night it was back again. The sound was horrendous and loud. 3rd day, I just left and went home. Breakfast is nice, so is the pub menu. Hawkstone on tap too!

This is the third time that I’ve stayed at the George whilst needing to be in the area for early morning meetings. It’s convenient and saves a ridiculous early start if travelling from home on the day of the meeting. The restaurant is great and from my experience so far is highly recommended

The hotel itself seemed pleasant from downstairs but the room smelt nasty and there was an industrial dishwasher or similar going at bedtime until gone midnight that was actually vibrating the bed and the glasses on the dressing table . The generator or fan noise continued all night . When I told the staff member at breakfast in the morning there was no apology,just told that it was probably the industrial fan .
Definitely wouldn't stay again.
