It was only one night and the walking distance of the hostel to the event I wanted to go in the evening and shopping the coming day was great.

Short walk to downtown. Free healthy breakfast and supper! Great staff! Homeless people in area may stress out some people. If you have a room with a street view, you may get second hand smoke from people smoking outside. However staff do their best to remind people not to smoke nearby.

I chose Ocean Island because it was the cheapest option within walking distance of the marina and theaters downtown but I imagined that it was going to be a little rough, mainly because of the neighborhood it's in but also from past experiences at hostels. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is not only incredibly clean but also very quiet. The only sound I heard at night were seagulls going by. The shared bathrooms were very well kept and I only had to wait my turn once. The dinner they serve (green curry with peas and potatoes the night I had it) was delicious and the free drink was cheerfully served. Breakfast was also fresh and delicious. The neighborhood is sketchy, especially at night but the fentanyl addicts are all around during the day as well. One hopes that one doesn't happen to walk by when one of these people is having any kind of manic moment but if seeing drug use and its results are not something you want on vacation this is not the place for you.

We enjoyed our stay and the free breakfast and dinner were a really great perk! The one free drink a night was also a nice touch. Our stay also felt safe even thought the neighborhood was not feeling the safest.

It’s in a good location and rates are the main reason I stay there- area at night is starting to be crowded with addicts and those with mental health issues that make walking around after dark and early mornings feel unsafe

Yannick at the front desk was wonderful and very helpful. This place offers free breakfast and free dinner with one (meatless) freshly cooked meal. Very delicious. Take advantage of the discount they offer for Whale watching etc. It’s worth it. Centrally located, no need to use the car. There are some homeless people in the neighbourhood but harmless.Our room was facing the street which is very noisy at night.

It's a backpacker hostel, and pretty much what I expected. Excellent staff, all the amenities you would need, all the guests friendly and respectful. If you're on a budget and don't mind sharing a room, then this is ideal.

This was my first time staying in a dorm room. It was a little cramped and difficult to carry my bags to my bed but not too bad. It’s a historic building so I understand that not everything is going to be perfectly modern. My roommate was transphobic but that’s not the property’s fault. The staff handled the situation very well. The kitchen space was very tidy and organized. I really enjoyed my experience

Ocean Island Inn treated me very well for my two night stay. It's a hostel with a broad diversity of amenities and services available, all with a humbly human vibe. It's located in a part of town that's accessible by walking to much of what Victoria has to offer, and Victoria is a really nice, small city by North American standards. It is a little gritty around the Inn, so factor your appetite and acceptance of that kind of thing into whether this is the place for you, but it's definitely safe. My room was clean and tidy, the bed comfy and the facilities very good. I'll stay again.
