Hafnarstræti Hostel

Central location, clean and quiet hostel with well equipped kitchen. A bit pricey but no other cheap option in town. Mind that there is no elevator to access the hostel on the first floor.

This is a cute town and a nice stop along the Ring Road. People here were respectful and quiet, which is nice as there are a lot of pods. Unfortunately, I never received my email before arriving on checkin instructions, so I spent about an hour asking people if they could help (staff not onsite at night). I finally found someone that gave me an amsil adress she received from Airbnb and they sent me an email immediately with my info. I booked through Agoda. I talked to the owner in the morning and she said she occasionally had issues with them. Better to. Ok with Booking. Or, apparently, Airbnb. Once that major stress was over all was fine…but rough for the end of a long day driving.

clean and really close to restaurants, there’s a cat that is always on the hallway to the entrance he’s so cute

The location is super central for sure, and everything in Akureryi is even more expensive than Reykjavik so if you’re on a budget this might be the only option. The pods were interesting in theory, but the main reason for my low rating is the lack of air flow. It was sweltering in the pod even with the air on “full blast”, and the room they are in had no circulation at all. We had to leave the pod door open which barely helped. The owner introduced herself early on and said she lived on site to be available, but did not actually provide information about how to seek support when needed. Bathrooms were great, kitchen seemed nice but we didn’t use it. The youth were up late partying across the street (in summer).
