We booked in a rush as we couldn't get to our destination, needed a night in Taupo. The marketing looked fabulous and photos amazing! For an older couple with injuries a soak in a private pool sounded superb! The lady at reception was lovely & welcoming. We quickly placed our bags in the room and noted a stale smell but rushed out to get takeaways before they closed. Upon returning we realized the room wasn't quite up to what we feel is standard for any accommodation facility. Reception had closed. The room did smell musty and when taking a chair to sit down we discovered alot of mould on the walls (alot)from carpet up the wall, then saw window sills were the same.. ALOT. The kitchen was clean though, the pool was a blessing and big tv. To be honest, the smell & unclean walls made it feel dirty even with a clean kitchen, almost as though it may be a last resort room thrown together. I have since read some reviews, it seems the other rooms that dont have a private pool have great reviews. We didnt sleep due to fearing breathing in stale mould spores and the wind made the extractor fan in the kitchen flap all night long. We didnt mention to reception as they had closed for the night and we left early before they opened. We wouldnt stay again. If you want to, DO ask for a different room. This was Room 9. As I said the lady at reception was lovely so not all bad. In our opinion, and we have stayed at alot of places at our age, Room 9 shouldn't be offered until the bedroom area has been upgraded. NOT SOMEWHERE WE WOULD GO AGAIN.
