About this house rental

Welcome to Normandy, where history meets the charm of the Norman countryside.
Our 160 m² house is ideally located just 4 km from Arromanches, in the heart of the D-Day landing beaches, offering easy access to the British, American, and Canadian sectors.

You can even walk to Arromanches via a lovely hiking trail through the Monts de Ryes.

Located 8 km from the beautiful town of Bayeux—with its famous tapestry, cathedral, and museums—our traditional Norman house is a peaceful and tranquil haven. With exposed beams, stone walls, and two decorative fireplaces, it offers a unique blend of comfort and authenticity.

The house features a spacious living room and a welcoming dining area, perfect for gathering with family or friends to enjoy local cuisine. The large bedrooms provide a restful retreat after a day of exploring the region.

Outside, you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet of a private enclosed courtyard—ideal for relaxing in complete privacy. A barbecue is also available, perfect for outdoor meals under the Norman sky.

Parking is easy and secure, away from the main road.
This is a non-smoking home, and pets are not allowed. However, Wi-Fi is available so you can stay connected during your stay.

Bed linen, towels, and cleaning are included in the price.
Remote work friendly: a desk is available and the house is connected to high-speed Orange fiber.

Communication with the host was fine. Check in was excellent. The instructions were very clear and easy. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed. The lighting in the entire house was poor. The bedrooms did not have side tables for the beds, requiring us to put things on the floor which is very awkward. Although the specification of the rooms/bathrooms was generally accurate, the second bathroom and toilet are actually downstairs on the main floor away from all the upstairs bedrooms and the toilet is actually in a room used for cleaning materials (mop, broom, etc). So for two couples wanting separate bathroom facilities (which was an important feature for us) it was very inconvenient. A clearer explanation of the room and bathroom configuration is necessary. We understand it was an old farmhouse but it was very musty inside and could have used a good airing before guests arrived The location was good, very close to the Normandy beaches.

The overall experience of the stay in Ryes was just ok. It is set in beautiful rural France with the sounds of cows and birds abundant. Save for the occasional car or scooter. The home itself has much character. Also, the updated windows and doors are of high quality and excellent at keeping the noise down from the passing vehicles (we needed them though because of the heat). Also, parking on the street was more than adequate for our 9 passenger van.Our chief complaint about the property was that, while clean, the property felt tired and that it had not been updated in a long time and is not really set up for travelers in mind. The rear courtyard was the biggest disappointment in this regard. It does not appear to be kept up at all. WiFi only works in a small portion of the home. Sorely needs a new router.

The owners could not be more helpful. Communication and response time was excellent. The house is large, with 3 double bed rooms. One room only has two table lamps, no lighting in the ceiling.Car parking is outside the front of the house, just off the main road. It is not possible to park in the back courtyard, since the turning circle isn't adequate for that.A very quiet countryside village. We liked the location. You can walk out the back of the houses, into the village. A nice walk, but there is little to find in the village.Ryse is located between Bayeux and Arromanches Les Bains. We found this convenient and a good location. The house has IT provided, but be aware that Wi-Fi reception upstairs at the far end of the house (i.e. furthest from the living room) is practically non- existent. There are two toilets in the house, one upstairs and one downstairs. Also there are two showers, again one upstairs and a walk-in downstairs in the washing machine room. Most cupboards were locked, and so there is less storage space than you may initially think.Owners: 10/10Location: 10/10 for a countryside location.House overall: 7/10 for 6 people.
