St Nicolas Cottage

Location, parking, good size downstairs, fair upstairs

Bed was to spongy, No curtains in bedrooms, building work out front, private garden inaccessible due to scaffolding, dirty stained carpets, stained dining chairs, couldn’t wash up properly as no bowl or plug in the kitchen. Deposit needed in case of damage.

We booked this property at short notice having been let down by another provider. Michael (the host) who manages this cottage on behalf of the owner was extremely helpful through out our stay, responding quickly to any questions or queries we had. The central location is excellent for access to a wide range of restaurants, bars and pubs, as well as all of the great shops in Ipswich. The property itself is cleaned to a good standard and reasonably equipped in terms of plates/cutlery/cooking equipment.

The cottage is in desperate need of refurbishment, particularly the family bathroom on the first floor. There is a missing cabinet door in the kitchen, the worktop has seen better days and only half of the induction hob works. The underfloor heating in the main living room did not work during our stay and the portable heater in the property intended to compensate for this was also broken. The living room is basically furnished presumably to make it easy to clean, and the carpets on the stairs and in the bedrooms are badly marked in places. It is a shame because with a little care and investment by the owner this could be the 'luxury' cottage it is advertised as.
