Frozen room that hasn't been cleaned but just across from a parkrun

The location was almost direct near a parkrun, which in Scotland is run at 9.30am (for those parkrunners out there who might not know). The guy who greeted me at the door was seemed kind. A few snacks available, including water.

The room was freezing, even with two radiators. The two pillows were flimsy at best. I was given a blanket on the bed, but that very rarely made any difference at all. There were long black hairs all over the carpet and also in the bathroom. The toilet seat, when lifted up, had never been clean because it was yellow and disgusting. The taps in the bathroom both gave out cold water, one kept on dripping constantly. The room had a lock inside, but when leaving there was no way of securing the room. The only thing separating you from the rest of the house was a curtain. Which wasn't an issue but, seems a bit unsafe, for both angles, as anyone could go into the person's house and visa versa, go into your room when you're not there, especially when they have a cupboard in there for "storing stuff". The back gate lock is broken and you need to adjust it by putting the key in first and then making sure the bolt doesn't drop.

Would benefit from some improvements

The homestay had everything we needed and was clean and tidy. The owner was responsive and easy to communicate with. He has an unusual name that I never saw written down anywhere (eg sms, Whatsapp), and consequently I could never remember it. (It would be nice to include the name in correspondence.) The homestay was quiet, other than some hushed movement early in the morning. The homestay is opposite a lovely park, which we quite enjoyed wandering through. Parking is on the street outside the homestay.

Sadly, the bed was quite uncomfortable. The mattress was hard and the springs creaked everytime I turned over. The pillows were old and flat. I would suggest that it's time for a new mattress and pillows. We also didn't appreciate having access and egress only through the back lane, although our initial entry was through the front door. The surface of the lane is rough, broken tarmac with lots of puddles when it rains, and it's where residents on both sides leave their bins lined up. When leaving, the host had expected us to bring our luggage out through the back, down the wet and muddy lane, down a side street and back to our car parked out the front! We chose to drive our car down the lane and pick up our luggage from there, but it wasn't a pleasant area to navigate, even in a car.
