Loft Centrale Milano

Location was great, handy to the central train station and the metro and literally next door to a small supermarket. It was very spacious and very quiet - we could hear no street noise at all. I would call it a large studio rather than a one-bedroom, but the ceilings were extremely high so it really felt large. The bed was comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped, although we had to supply our own coffee and tea, which is unusual. The owner communicated quickly whenever we messaged. There was a lot of toilet paper! Yay! That brings the score up, in my opinion. The only windows were the ones facing the entry "courtyard" - in quotation marks because it seemed to be more of a garage depot or someplace like that which had been converted to apartments, which might explain the high ceilings - and you couldn't really leave them open unless you really enjoy mosquitoes, but on the other hand the air conditioning worked really well. So yes, we were quite comfortable there.

The shower, although really good in terms of pressure (probably the best we experienced on our trip) and hot water supply, was minuscule. I was constantly bumping the handle with my elbow and turning it off accidentally. And there is nowhere to put your soap or shampoo inside it. If you are a large person (which I am not), you'll need to shower with the door open and risk flooding the bathroom. Moreover, the drain didn't work properly so it almost overflowed anyway. Hopefully that will be getting fixed. The day we arrived, the place had not been cleaned in preparation for our arrival, but that was obviously just a miscommunication on the cleaner's part. Once that snafu was cleared up and the cleaner came and cleaned (while we sat there watching), the place was perfectly clean. I wouldn't hold that experience against the host, he was sufficiently embarrassed that I am sure it won't happen again. Sometimes wires get crossed. In fact I was surprised it did happen because he had been in frequent communication with us beforehand, so it was almost certainly the cleaner's fault. That being said, I had to wash a lot of the glassware in the kitchen cupboards before using it. It all had a thin film of oil on it as though the previous occupants either washed their glasses in cold water or they like their wine with an aftertaste of olive oil, your guess is as good as mine. And anything with a plastic or rubber handle or component, same deal. Lots of oily fingerprints on things in the kitchen. Otherwise, we were happy enough with the apartment. A bit on the expensive side but worth it for location, spaciousness, and quiet.
