Picture this: You have spent two days driving through the heart of Provence—swimming in sun-drenched lakes, frolicking in endless fields of lavender, and melting under the golden South of France sun. Ahead of you lies day three, anticipating a long, winding drive down to the Côte d’Azur. You recall the affordable little countryside lodging you booked a month prior. It has a pool. The thought of washing the day's heat away before catching forty winks is the only thing on your mind. As you navigate the quiet backcountry roads, you begin to wonder if Google Maps has completely misled you. Suddenly, you arrive at a closed electric gate. Surrounding the premises are sweeping fields, glowing in the late afternoon sun. It looks like a frame pulled straight from a classic film. You call the property, and the warmest, most welcoming voice greets you before the gate swings open. There is no tedious check-in process, no hidden fees. The host guides you straight to your home away from home. When you ask about the pool, he reassures you with an enthusiastic, “Bien sûr!!” He walks you through the communal spaces—a charming tableau of chessboards, classic games, a piano, and a shared kitchen. Without hesitation, he takes the bottle of wine from your hands and places it neatly on your dedicated shelf in the fridge. Finally, you reach your room. It isn’t overly fancy, but it is flawless. The air conditioning has already been turned on, offering a cool sanctuary from the heat. You think to yourself: How can it possibly get better than this? Then, the magic truly unfolds. As you jog back to the car to grab your snacks, you catch movement out of the corner of your eye. Two black sheep are peering curiously from a rustic shed. Beside them, two chickens wander lazily across the grass.
