Monkeys Tail

Amazing location, fun activities to do were close-by,had animals visit us in the mornings and in the evening, comfortable home away from home

The checkout was at 10 on bookings but our host told us on the morning of the last day we had to checkout at 9 am. Not a train smash but this should be communicated well ahead of time

Lovely and private, beds comfortable, practical and the wildlife walking past made it extremely enjoyable. The privacy was the main point for me - at night you almost feel alone in the bush. I was worried that one might be too close to one's neighbours for comfort, but that is not the case. Love Monkey's Tail because of its complete lack of pretence - which is more than I can say of some of the more overly-elaborate places in Marloth Park that take themselves way too seriously. . . I was also worried the animals would feel "tame", but that is not the case at all. Having been to nature reserves my whole life, seeing a majestic Kudu bull, Wildebeest or even worthog up close is truly magnificent - and it never made a "zoo" impression, at all.

My only complaint is not really directed at Monkey's Tail, more at Marloth park generally: the condition of the gravel roads, especially along the river, is very poor. To my mind, the proximity to Crocodile Bridge is one of the main attractions and the fact that I can go there without needing a massive SUV or bakkie, but I am afraid a sedan struggles on the river roads in Marloth Park. That is sad because the views from the Park itself over the Crocodile River are spectacular - sometimes even better than being in Kruger itself. And there is lots of traffic coming into Marloth, even at night. The N4 from Milly's all the way to Malelane is also a dogshow at the moment - massive roadworks and coal trucks driving like lunatics, very stressful. 450km could take about 6 hours. . .

Nothing!!!! It’s dirty, unkept and the host patronises you when you tell her about it. Drove 5 hrs from jhb to clean a house I was meant to reset in.. omb the linen? The beds? The bathrooms lol There was nothing inside the soap containers n diffusers, braai stand was filthy, goodness I could go on The couch in the living room was covered with a throne to hide the dirt There was a locked room which she didn’t bother to tell me about, when I asked her she said it was a storehouse. Yoh! I can go on…

Old beds, an unkept house with dodgy furniture, mosquitos and cockroaches everywhere. I told them I’d be checking in at 1pm, and they didn’t even bother to prepare the place. On our last day we woke up to no electricity — not even a heads-up. When I informed her, the response was, “Sorry, I just woke up? How was I supposed to know?” Wow. That alone says it all. I only received checkout information after telling her about the electricity issue, but by then I had already left at 7am because honestly, what was the point? I hated the experience. My money was completely wasted. When I complained about the place been dirty, her response was “Hey... yeah. That happens in the bush. We prepped this morning, but with the wind that's not on our side, we can sweep hourly and it will still look like that 🫣😅”
