About this house rental
Step aboard and captain your own ship at this SEA-sational Pacific Ocean coastal home. Houghton Bay is located between Lyall & Island Bays. Beaches are popular with surfers, swimmers & divers. The zoo & airport are only 4km (perfect for early flights) & the home is handy to city centre museums, cable car, events & waterfront sightseeing. There’s mini golf within a wonderland sculpture park a 5min drive. Return home to explore rock pools or stroll past snorkelers (book lessons for all levels) to Bait House aquarium or the children’s playground at delightful Island Bay & treat yourself to coffee or ice-cream. You can see Princess Beach from the home, famous for gorgeous sunsets across snowy South Island mountains.
This 1950’s home has been extensively redesigned for comfortable living with a vintage vibe. Cosy for 2 but spacious enough for 6 max guests.
10 external stairs to 1st level entry & 3 stylish bedrooms with queen beds, facing the sea & a bathroom. The top level has open plan living/kitchen with stunning ocean views & 2nd bathroom. Enjoy dolphin spotting, ships & aeroplanes or watch locals on The Great Southern Walkway in front. This extends to Red Rocks & a visitor centre - a must see. Relax on the large patio deck with a drink & book or stay warm & cosy in front of huge windows, watching the magnificent Pacific Ocean. There’s a bench & stools to catch up with work on your laptop or board games for the family.
Create meals to share in the full kitchen, order in for a break from meal prep or try beachfront cafes nearby.
Other things to note:
Free off-road parking nook & bus stops opposite. There are the sounds of ocean waves. Road in front can be busy, though bedroom windows are double glazed.

The view from this property is really as stunning as advertised. We enjoyed watching the ocean waves crashing on the rocks, seals frolicking in the swells, gulls, shags, and other birds flying about, and lots of ferries, kayaks, planes, sailboats, and joggers going by, both near and far. The property is well furnished with interesting and eclectic decor, and lots of space to relax both indoors and outdoors. We appreciated the nice touches including the fresh organic apples left for us by the host. The road can be a bit busy, but there is a good sidewalk in both directions and a fairly short walk to the nearby beaches and the small aquarium in Island Bay. All-in-all, a wonderful place to stay right by the water!

We really enjoyed our stay in this home! The views are incredibly beautiful. Julie the host is thoughtful and supplied everything we needed. We loved Wellington as well. We used the city bus system almost exclusively and it took us everywhere we wanted to go. We enjoyed the cable car and the Wellington Botanical Gardens were exquisite. The Te Papa museum is a must see. The Grocer’s Shed, a short walk from the house, has delicious food, coffee, and ice cream. We would love to return and would definitely stay in this home again. Highly recommended!

Lovely home, awsome spot, great parking, swimming very close, walking good. Great cafes and bars and quirky places near by. A great part of Wellington.

What an amazing location with special character. The wairua in the Whare held space and the comfort of a HOME not a house
