Second time staying here, not far from Bath. Lots of lounge rooms with stuffed animal heads & interesting art in the walls, cosy & quant. Lovely 3 course meal in their restaurant on site

A fabulous place to stay whilst visiting Bath. A gorgeous old building situated out of town, in quite a rural and peaceful setting, with glorious views. Lovely bedrooms (ours was huge) and bathrooms. The decor is extraordinary, and the beds are sumptuous. Lots of art throughout the place - could spend an eternity viewing it all. Several lounges where you could retire to, & be swallowed by sprawling sofas or deep armchairs. The food and drink were top notch, the service impeccable. We've never stayed anywhere quite like it. The only criticism I have was it did feel a little on the dark side inside. The foliage outside our bedroom window, coupled with the lack of a main ceiling light just made it a little too dark for my personal taste. And there's no tv. Not that I missed the tv, but having one there would've provided an extra light source. A flickering bit of brightness. But there is a radio, so there was always music. Which I love. So not much of a criticism, really. More me being a picky old fart. 😁 I would highly recommend staying here, though. It would be impossible to do so, & not feel grand. 2 other things. 1. The entrance is literally on the corner of the A4 & Leafy lane. So when you turn into Leafy Lane, you need to immediately turn right into the driveway. 2. If you fancy a bite to eat away from the hotel, the Northey Arms down the road towards Bath is a lovely restaurant.

Please cc *** or I will get my Manager to get in touch with him personally and then there will be a big STINK!! Good Afternoon at The Rudloe I stayed in Room ***. It is a very nice room but lacks ventilation except for the double doors which open straight out onto a public walkway. Most of the time that I stayed there, I had these windows open slightly and tied together with my dogs lead in order to stop my dog from getting out and to stop other guests getting in (and they did try!) but worst of all was the disgusting smell from (what I was told was) the septic tank, wafting in through these windows. The smell was of sewerage (and I did mention it to members of staff who kindly said I could move to another room when one became available) the stink from it was a big topic of conversation with all the other guests who had to use the entrance. I have severe lung disease and the move to another room would have been too much of an undertaking for me since I had already unpacked my case and medicines. Had it been possible to open the other two windows in the room, this problem would never have arisen but the other windows were fixed and not able to open. These are both problems which need correcting. The patio doors could open inwards and locking wrought iron metal bar doors installed on the outside of them. It is unacceptable and worse still, it is unhealthy in it's current state. All of the staff were excellent, including all reception staff... except for the Managers. Firstly, the female Manager who overcharged me by ***on check in (which has just been refunded to my account today - 9 days after I paid, and only then due to the hard work of a wonderful young lady on reception - thank you so much) and secondly, the rudeness and disregard for me from the male Manager(?) at reception who was asked to take my luggage and myself to my accommodation and who took me outside the front door at reception and 'pointed' at the location of my room. He made no attempt to help with my luggage, which my driver had already unloaded at the main entrance. After a 4 hour drive to get there, my driver was understandably furious (and exhausted) but had the good grace to reload my luggage into his car and take it to the furthest point away from the main building in Room *** (very aptly named... Ref: Room *** in George Orwell's novel - 1984!) - something I could not have done without since I have severe lung disease! Other than the above, which is appalling in a MPW Hotel, I found the hotel decor lovely and intriguing - a mix of the old, the new, the classic and the abstract. The attention of all the staff, from the cleaners, the reception staff and the restaurant staff were a delight... but where's the mini-fridge? Where is the room service? Not there, that's where! The Hotel is in a beautiful setting and despite all I have said, I would love to visit again... next time, I will be ready with questions and requests before I am stuck with the totally unacceptable. So - get a proper, working porter. Install a mini fridge Provide Room Service Get opening windows on the ground floor. Get your septic tank sorted out - it is a health hazard! It is putrid - and does not become a hotel belonging to MPW. Get a telephone line which is manned! This hotel NEVER EVER answers the landline phone number provided... not even the Emergency Night Managers mobile number. It was a lovely, spacious and comfortable room (except for the on/off tv reception and a stained and rickety chair) but maybe MPW should be invited to stay in Room ***, himself!! Even if he didn't want any windows open himself, the stinking fumes when walking out through the lobby of the building is enough to knock you out. My very best wishes and thanks to all those of you who did a good job, from cleaners, to restaurant to reception staff. Do not let the Management let YOU down because THEY are doing a terrible job! ***
