Ulysses Suites has just been completed inside the historic J. G. Schmohl building in the heart of downtown Galena, located at 213 to 217 S. Main Street. The location is walking distance to all the best restaurants and shops. We have 7 suites and a beautiful lobby that are modern and luxurious, with lots of historical character as a nod to its previous existence as the Grant Hotel from 1895 to 1933. Suite 302 is an ADA accessible unit located on the 3rd floor and can be attached to Suite 301.
The space
The J. G. Schmohl building was built around 1850. From 1895 to 1932, Mr. Schmohl ran the Grant Hotel in this building. We have lovingly renovated this well-deserved building with a nod to the Grant Hotel from the turn of the century. We have 3 two bedroom/2 bath suites, 2 one bedroom/1 bath suites and 2 studios. Having a special family/friend gathering? You can rent the entire 7 suites that will accommodate 21 people. Ulysses Suites main entrance is at 214 S. Bench Street and is also accessible between 213 and 215 S. Main Street. Ulysses Suites has been awarded the Galena Excellence in Historic Preservation Designation in 2020. What a beautiful place to stay! The unit was so impressive! Clean, comfortable and quiet! The suite met all our needs. Great location to wander downtown Galena! We will definitely be back.

The Ulysses Suites are unmatched in cleanliness and high quality amenities. The owner has done an outstanding job in decorating for style and comfort. I would highly recommend these suites for your next Galena getaway. They are located right downtown were you have access to all you need. The alcove in our suite was the perfect spot to cozy up with coffee or tea and enjoy the hustle and bustle of downtown without having to be a part of it! The restaurant right below the suites, Bread and Vine, was delicious and a must if you visit!

We enjoyed our stay in this renovated beautiful suite. Quiet, comfortable and on main street downtown. Fresh coffee grounds, and drinking water including sparkling water provided. Complimentary gifts were appreciated too.

So many great touches!! Great coffee. Snuggly throw. Tap for fresh water with glass water bottles. Umbrellas. Great light and mirror for putting on makeup in bed room (a makeup table would have been a nice touch in the bedroom). Excellent location. Quiet. Great view over Main Street. Very comfortable bed… slept amazing! (The couch cute but not so comfortable). Owners did wonderful job of creating a fun and beautiful experience.
