La verdine

One of the most enjoyable stays I have ever had was at La Verdine, just outside Arles. Sylvie, the hostess, is a warm, fascinating person who makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Her home has a relaxed, bohemian spirit and is filled with thoughtful details that reflect her excellent taste. I visited during the opening week of the Rencontres d’Arles, when temperatures were exceptionally high. Yet La Verdine, nestled among trees and immersed in nature, remained a peaceful retreat. We slept wonderfully with only a fan and the fresh night air coming through the window. The highlight, of course, was the swimming pool. After spending long days wandering through the heat of Arles, slipping into the cool water felt like silk to the body. There was also a billiard table on the ground floor, and outside, a charming honesty fridge stocked with beers and ice creams, where guests could simply leave a small contribution in a piggy bank. In the room I found a few Asterix books to browse through, as well as a beautiful art book on Edward Hopper. These little touches perfectly reflected the character of the house and its owner. Breakfast was generous and delicious, easily keeping us energized until dinner. The location is not the most convenient if you plan to spend all your time in the city, but Sylvie kindly offered to drive us to the center every morning, which we greatly appreciated. Returning in the evening was easy, as Uber rides generally cost no more than €13.

La Verdine se situe aux portes de la vieille ville, dans un cadre verdoyant. C'est un véritable havre de paix, surtout après l'agitation urbaine. On y trouve une magnifique et grande piscine, et l'on peut passer des heures à lire à l'ombre des arbres. Les chambres sont agréables et disposent d'une grande terrasse. L'accueil chaleureux de Sylvie, la maîtresse de maison, est exceptionnel. Elle prépare également un délicieux petit-déjeuner. Tout est parfait !
