La Maison Pondichéry

Property was safe and was decent. Room was clean, nothing really fancy for the price though. Breakfast is on the house and was reasonably good. Staff were helpful.

Street noise - the property is located on a busy street and you can hear the noise on the street: people and traffic.

Centrally located on Bussy Street, edge of French quarter (White Town…apparently named after the many coast side white buildings). Manager Dinish was incredibly helpful, arranged a personalised day tour at very reasonable rate, with Zak, both spoke good English.

Well, it’s traditional and old style. Breakfast was a little disappointing by western standards, lack of choice, though they did manage a simple omelette.

The property was very clean. The staff was also very polite and helpful. Most places of interest in Pondichéry are within walking distance of the property.

For the price we paid, the amenities are extremely basic, and we didn't find the property worth the price. The property is situated on an extremely busy Main road with no parking space. The parking offered by the property is 1km away which takes 15-20 mins to walk to. Since the road is busy, you can also expect a lot of traffic noise till late in the night. The images of the room we originally booked had ample sunlight entering the room, and the amenities looked nice. But when we reached, we found that the room has NO windows, smelled moldy, and was dark and dingy. Thankfully we were allowed to change our room, but even then, we were first allotted a smaller room with similar issues, before (and after some candid feedback) we were given a room with any sunlight (upstairs). Our room only had a bed, a wardrobe, and a washroom. There were no extra chairs to sit on inside the room, and there are no common spaces outside the room to sit in either. Our room had a nice balcony but it was unfurnished and facing the road, which was noisy, making it unusable. We felt stuck and cramped inside our room. We didn't receive any toiletries except for a bar soap, and we also didn't have any tea or coffee sachets. We had to buy those for ourselves. Our bed was very uncomfortable due to the quality of the mattress, and the air conditioner in the room strangely faces the common area instead of the bed, which makes it impossible to cool the room. The breakfast service in the mornings is extremely slow (2 people in a kitchen), and the seating is very limited. We almost waited forty minutes on our second day despite being at the kitchen at 7.30,which is when they promise to start serving, due to which we almost missed our scheduled visit to Matrimandir. The quality of the food ranges from good to average. Lastly, their hospitality needs a lot of improvement.
