壬生小宿

This small traditional house is located on an exceptionally quiet street. It was so peaceful that we often found ourselves speaking in whispers without even realizing it. The atmosphere felt very authentic and helped us experience a different side of Kyoto. The house was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed. The washer-dryer combination was particularly useful and worked very well. Although the space was compact, it was manageable for four people and provided a memorable stay in a traditional Japanese setting.

The house felt a little cramped for four adults. We mainly used the second floor only for sleeping, while the entire group could gather together only around the floor table downstairs. The refrigerator was awkwardly positioned near the floor against a wall, and the door opened in an inconvenient direction. The staircase was also very steep, making it somewhat difficult to go up and down, especially at night. None of these issues spoiled our stay, but they are worth considering for travelers with large luggage or mobility concerns.

Cute little house, good location, clean

The lock wasn’t working well and we always struggled for 5-10min to get back inside. The description says the accommodation has a washing machine but we couldnt find it. I texted the staff on day 1 to ask about it, on day 3 I still didn’t get a reply.

Love the traditional setup, spacious for 3. Washing machine and dryer very handy. 5min walk to bus stop with direct bus to Gion/Karamachi area, direct bus to bamboo forest and Fushimi inari. I was initially worried about the location but was really glad that there's direct buses to all the places we had to go. We took a taxi to train station when we checked out to take the Hankyu line to Osaka, about 2000 yen. Staircase up to the rooms is quite steep and those who are tall need to duck when getting down. Not a problem for us but not suitable for older folks.
