Having a small house just for our family was a given. Even though it was tucked among 3 other buildings, it had sufficient natural light thanks to a clever layout with a mini garden and windows (2-3 layers). Tatamis, futons, wooden stairs, and minimalist furniture added to the traditional feel. The kitchen, washing amenities, TV, and all automations added to the modern convenience feeling. We liked having a separate capable A/C unit in each room. We appreciate that the neighboring house that had some construction workers on our arrival, suspended activity until the day of our departure (Arigato!).

We had issues with the washing machine for clothes; it did not fill with water. The host was helpful and responded quickly, but after a few tries, we managed to get it to wash laundry, yet we were still unable to use it to dry our clothes. We used alternative methods; it was not a big issue. Suggestion: Some English instructions on how to use the kitchen and washing amenities, which have only Japanese Kanji buttons, would help. We figured out how to use some of the buttons, but it felt strenuous and inefficient, like guesswork.

An excellent, spacious, well-equipped apartment. We stayed with our 4 year old and he had enough space to play. Further, a perfect stop if you travel around Japan and want to ease down, izakayas in the neighbourhood are excellent. Also easy to travel to other parts of Kyoto as well as to the train station.

I’d suggest a small kitchen towel to clean the table.

We loved this gorgeous Japanese house. It was in a great position, near to stations, bus stops and supermarket. It was clean and had good kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities.

The table was a traditional low table with floor seating, and while that was lovely, we did miss having a comfortable seat to relax on after busy days exploring
