A cosy stay in Quirky accommodation in a beautiful location .

Quirky Cottage by name and by nature .What lovely accommodation in a beautiful setting. The accommodation was full of charm and history .Original decor all very quirky .The resident cat was friendly .I stayed one night to attend a Gig at Holmfirth The fellow guests were attending the same Gig too and gave me a lift there and back. Great stay!

Barn Cottage.

Stayed New Year's Eve 2025, Deborah is an excellent host and gave us a very warm welcome, she made us feel very much at home immediately. The accommodation is clean and very homely. Our bedroom was very spacious and yes, quirky but we loved it. Initially a little cold but soon warmed up once the radiator was switched on. The shared bathroom was just across the hall and adequate. We were attending a music gig in Holmfirth that evening and Deborah very kindly gave us a lift into town which was much appreciated. Thank you Deborah for your hospitality..

Perfect rural location, idea for exploring the area. The house owner is delightful and helpful. Everything you need for a short stay...with the added bonus of a great big, soft cat!

Beautiful surroundings inside and outside of the house. The house was warm and comfy. The host was very helpful even coming out onto the main road in the dark and rain to direct me up to the house and assist me with parking.

Perhaps some info on where to put rubbish. I used the compost bin ,the wood burner for burnables and took home non recyclables in a disposable waste bag that I had with me. NB there is a waste bin in the bathroom. Maybe mention or label the top drawer of the chest of drawers in the bedroom. It is extremely well stocked with many teas and a good quality instant coffee. (Arrangements for milk and fridge are well expained).

We had a fantastic stay at Barn Cottage. It was perfect for what we needed and was very warm and comfortable. Peaceful and relaxing place in beautiful surroundings. Friendly cat, Mr Hendricks, an added bonus! Deborah was a great host and was helpful with anything we needed.

Enjoyable, comfortable, unpretentious. Recommended.

It’s a house. You’re literally staying at a mates house or a member of your family’s house. There’s a robust set of rules that can’t go wrong. There’s a lounge area on the first floor separate from your bedroom. You can use the kitchen for your basic needs. When you come in to the house you find yourself letting the cat in. It’s brilliant. You just need to understand that this is nuanced bed for the night. If you don’t meet Deborah in the evening then you’re going to see her in the morning and she knows plenty about the area so you’re laughing. Oh and the bedroom is more than supplied well for a cuppa first thing.

Quiet room, flexible host

Quirky room in a quiet village. Lovely host interesting to talk to, very flexible, willing to meet guests' needs. She even hung our laundry up to dry while we were out! Access to shared lounge for extra space. Access to kitchen facilities. Short drive to/from Holmfirth. I suggest guests aim for Oldfield Rec and enter Oldfield Rd from Knoll Lane as it's a hair-raising drive from the other end

Room is quite small, it could be improved by removing the extra furniture and clutter. We were grateful to be allowed to use the kitchen, but unfortunately cleanliness there was an issue.

Definitely quirky and remote

Very quiet (apart from neighbours at the back who started building work at 0800 sunday 13th july) & very quirky, deceptively large cottage. We only stayed one night as we were down for a family party. We liked the hard bed, the huge walk in shower and free, refillable toiletries which we have since ordered for ourselves.

Very small room with access to only one side of bed - we knew this beforehand. No wardrobe. Not able to find any milk in the room. Only one person could move around the bedroom comfortably. Bus service into Holmfirth stopped around 1630!!

Relaxed chilled affair

Quiet location with lots of walks in the area. Exceptional value for money. Quirky place with 5 minutes access to the pub and Chinese. The cat on site liked my friend Graham 😂! We will be back ! the owner was very accommodating thank you ❤️

Clean cosy character with charming cat concierge

Mr. Hendricks is a fabulous host! He walked right up to us coming down the lane looking for #12, head butted my leg for pats, then started off for the correct door looking over his shoulder at us like "well, come on!" The info pack Deborah sends is accurate, Google maps will send you to the wrong address, use the what3words location she gives you. Deborah is wonderfully welcoming and friendly and interesting to chat with. The cottage hits an excellent balance of homey bohemian comfort without feeling starched, the views are gorgeous, and it's quiet enough you can hear this birds outside. We'll be back next year ;0)

It was very convenient to where we lived and in a lovely hamlet. The owner was pleasant.

I booked the place for my niece and nephew who were visiting. The description on Booking.com implied it was a Quirky Weavers Cottage, indeed that is the title of it and indeed this feedback. The pictures implied it was as 1 up 1 down with a place to sit outside. It should have said a ROOM in a weavers cottage as it actually was. When we got contact from the owner that was when we found out it was just a room, but it was then too late to look for somewhere else. Indeed they were only going to be sleeping in it anyway and it was very close to where we lived, so convenient. I know the hamlet so found it easy enough. However when we walking in first impressions were not good. It look unclean. There was breakfast dishes on the table which is the first room you enter. The stairs had things on them to be taken up I presume and were unclean. We went up to the room. The bedding had not been ironed - it looked like someone had already slept in the bed. The room was dusty. As I had booked it for them, I felt very disappointed.

This is a really comfortable, relaxing place to stay. The room was great, the bed very comfy and because of it's location it was very quiet and peaceful. Deborah is a lovely host along with Kendrick, the best fed cat in Yorkshire.

Cairns Cottage Review April 2025

Deborah couldn't do enough for us, she was very knowledgeable on local history and places to visit. A lovely quirky weavers cottage with a boutique vibe. Loved the original features and got a great nights sleep due to a comfy bed and it being so quiet. Amazing views, great place for walkers, with access to public footpaths nearby. Set in a small hamlet with good location for Holmfirth, Meltham and surrounding villages. Had an enjoyable stay, Mr Hendrix is a character and such a cute cat 🐈.

We booked a couple of rooms and did not mind sharing the upper sitting room and bathroom, almost felt like a suite with the layout of the cottage. It might be a topic of conversation for those wanting ensuite facilities, however, for us personally, it wasn't an area of concern.

Willow tree

The host was welcoming and friendly, and her property was well kept. It was a little tight for parking, and you have to be really careful when driving down to the property. It is a little far from the town to walk there and back if you aren't used to walking all that far. You do get a little reception room of your own. However, the television doesn't work, so we ended up watching television in the bedroom in the late evening. The bed looks lovely but not very practical! The mattress was hard and very uncomfortable and we didn't sleep all that well. We won't be revisiting unfortunately due to location out of town and the uncomfortable bed!

brilliant, quaint peaceful location in an old hamlet, lovely countryside, received a warm welcome from Deborah, the host and she even dropped me off at Holmfirth's picturedrome. The quirky willow tree bed was a work of art and was really comfy- slept like a log, and the resident cat Mr hendricks was lovely gave me a morning welcome to say hello, I would definitely recommend this property and wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

everything, Hospitality factor was fantastic, i could not of been made more welcome. the house is in a beautiful setting. the rooms were homely & the decor was very pleasing to the eye. the information sheet told me everything I needed to know to ensure my stay was very comfortable & virtually no need to actually ask the proprietor about anything.

Warm, comfy with the friendliest host iv ever met.

Extremely friendly host and beautiful house. Shower was lovely and the bed was very pretty.

Literally the only downside was the thiness of the walls and floors (could hear very loud snoring) and that the bed was only accessible from one side. Will still definitely stay again!
