Breakfast was excellent and varied day to day.

Le riad est spacieux, lumineux, confortable et très bien décoré. Bien équipé, il y avait tout le nécessaire. Le riad était rigoureusement propre. Le service était au petit soin.

The Riad has been renovated to a good standard and it’s a great mix of contemporary design and Moroccan influences. It’s spacious, clean, big beds (mattresses: firm to hard) nice bed linen and towels, lovely dining table and sitting area, good location. The housekeepers are lovely and helpful. However, when we arrived the pool was dirty and the filter didn’t clean it. The pool then developed a small leak which turned into a huge leak and flooded the roof of the Riad. It took 3 days to repair - the pool needed a new filter and pump. This was nobody’s fault - these things happen from time to time but the way the owners dealt with this was unacceptable. They refused our request for reasonable compensation (only 10% of the cost of the stay) because the pool was broken and dirty for 3 days - the weather was hot - 38 degrees. They offered only 5% but on the condition that we wrote a highly rated review that maintained their current rating. We didn’t want to compromise our integrity and mis-lead future guests so couldn’t accept this unreasonable condition. We now wonder how many of the reviews are genuine. Guests should also know that there is cctv on the roof terrace/pool area which may make some feel uncomfortable and there is a strong smell of sewage that rises up through the plumbing in the en-suite shower rooms - there are no doors on the en-suites which means the smell fills the bedrooms. The lovely housekeeper does try to mask the smell with room scent/oils but this isn’t always effective. There’s also a sewage pipe in the corner of the pool so there is a periodic sewage smell that fills the pool and terrace area. The owner advised that this is a known problem because the sewage system frequently backs up. The kitchen is not fully equipped for a self catering holiday - if you’re staying for 3 or 4 nights and/or plan to dine out every day you’ll be fine but guests staying longer will find it challenging to prepare proper meals.

The cctv on the roof terrace/pool area made us feel uncomfortable but we understand the need for security systems. It may make you feel uncomfortable too, especially if you’re travelling with children. The lovely housekeeper does try to mask the smell with room scent/oils but this isn’t always effective. The owner advised that this is a known problem because the sewage system frequently backs up. The kitchen is not fully equipped for a self catering holiday - if you’re staying for 3 or 4 nights and/or plan to dine out every day you’ll be fine but guests staying longer will find it challenging to prepare proper meals (tiny chopping board - ok for a large apple but nothing bigger - bendy/thin carving knives, small frying pans - only big enough for 2-3 people, no washing up bowl, no plug for the kitchen sink, no tea-towels provided etc).
