It’s in the industrial area, and therefore away from the typical touristy areas. It is family run and the hosts are really responsive and welcoming. It’s is walking distance from Kirkwall city center, and they rent out bicycles. The room that I stayed in was spacious and clean, from my bathroom I had a great view of the downtown city area. And the hosts were really helpful in their recommendations.
I’m very particular when it comes to my mattresses, and it felt like mine had a slight slope to it, but that’s a me thing. I cannot stress this enough that this was a me specific issue, I’m certain that most people would not have noticed this nor would they have cared.

We had the most beautiful and relaxing stay at Grainbank Mews. From the very beginning, the hosts were incredibly welcoming and attentive—promptly answering our questions before arrival and offering excellent recommendations for places to eat.
The guest house has been beautifully converted, and we stayed in both a king room and a ground-floor twin room. Each was tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we could possibly need for a comfortable stay.
A generous continental breakfast was included, with a wide selection of cereals, porridge, toast, and fresh fruit. It was more than enough to set us up perfectly for a full day of sightseeing around the island.
We would highly recommend Grainbank Mews to anyone visiting the area and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we return.

Everything here was wonderful! The room was comfy, tastefully done. I love the history of the place and the beautiful buildings. Albert and Aileen were warm hosts, helpful when I was sorting out ferries and Aileen makes a fantastic fruit salad!
