Town: Oakham is the delightful county town of Rutland, and is a great place to visit and spend a holiday. It is filled with pretty stone and thatched buildings and offers something for everyone, it's a great family holiday destination. The town centre offers a good range of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from as well as a local history museum, a 12th century castle and a 14th century church adding real character and beauty. To the outskirts of the town sits one of the largest man-made lakes in Europe in the Rutland Water Nature Reserve which offers watersports, a small water adventure park, a bird watching fair, sailing club and fishing facilities for you outdoor people. There is also Rutland Water Golf Course overlooking the lake.
