Region: A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Town: The pretty hamlet of Gravels Bank lies in the beautiful Shropshire Hills facing the Stiperstones and just 15 miles from the medieval town of Shrewsbury. Nearby Minsterley boasts a pub, one of the oldest buildings in the village, a shop, Post Office and an excellent fish and chip shop! With Pontesbury just one mile further away offering additional amenities, including takeaways, restaurants, farm shop, Arscott Golf Club, Springlea Fishing Pools and the Pontesbury cycle/footpath. Close by is The Long Mynd, which is a haven for walkers, glider pilots, mountain bikers and wildlife watchers, provides a convenient place to relax and take in the wonderful scenery on offer. One of England's finest heritage towns with over 600 listed buildings, Shrewsbury nestles on a loop of the River Severn. Admire the pretty cobbled alleys and squares and enjoy the many festivals on offer including Shrewsbury's Summer Season. Shrewsbury has a magnificent Abbey founded in 1083, as well as Shrewsbury Castle, which stands in beautiful gardens and grounds and is home to the Shropshire Regimental Museum. There are plenty of interesting things to do in the area with the National Trust's Attingham Park, Wroxeter Roman City, the museums at Ironbridge, the castle and Michelin starred restaurant of Ludlow and Acton Scott working farm, as featured in the Victorian Farm TV series, this lovely village is the perfect touring spot for your Shropshire adventure.
