15 Main Gate

The location is fantastic, right in heart of Birgu. The access to the room was secure and efficient and the communication from the host prior to arrival was excellent. The room it self is beautiful - Room 2 - self contained, very clean with a traditional balcony overlooking the street. The bed and bedding was very comfortable. The room contained everything needed.

It was really let down by the water situation. The day we arrived there was virtually no water coming from the bathroom tap or the shower. The toilet made a lot of noise and the cistern was filling with hot water. The next morning however, there was water coming from the shower, although not enough hot water for both of us. Also the shower head is not fixed properly, so we had to hold it all the time. Whilst walking up or down the stairs the automatic lights are not timed to come on long enough to get down the stairs. So this meant we were left in darkness mid stairs, having to wave our arms about to get them to come on.

Location, room size and facilities. Ease of contacting owner, and their responsiveness

63 stairs up to the property and the luggage lift was awaiting repair (in fairness, the owner was dealing with this) Had to get used to the tolling of the church bells across the road but it was quite charming really.

Location was great, just 10minutes to the boats to Valetta. Right opposite a church where the bells woke us at 08:00 so no alarms needed! Also heard the cannons go off around that time which was really cool. Some people complained of light coming in at early hours: my partner is a heavy sleeper and didn't notice and I, as a light sleeper, just brought an eye mask just incase so no problems!

The shower head was in a bit of a poor shape, it was angled so that wherever you put it it would try to revert back to a position where it splashed the bathmat. In addition to this it did flood into the bedroom a bit which could easily be resolved by simple adding a door to the shower. Considering this was what so many people complained about I felt I must give a 9/10 just because this issue is easily resolved yet has not been.

Had a great time, the room feels very big because of the height.
