Hughesville Birgu

It was just perfect, a bit small but more than enough if you stay until late out.

There weren’t any markets near the house.

Perfect location! Very clean and quiet apart from the church bells at 8am but that is the perfect alarm to get up to! Down the road you can get a boat taxi for €3 to Valletta and only a 15 min drive to Marsaxlokk where you can do a boat trip to St Peter’s pool. Birgu was our favourite place when exploring Malta as we were looking for a peaceful town with beautiful scenery and that’s exactly what we got!

The location was excellent, just off the main square in Birgu and close to ferry, traditional boats, restaurants and bars. Owners were fast to reply and responded helpfully to requests. The room was plain and simple but fresh and comfortable, bathroom new, all beautifully clean. Great Wifi. There is masses to enjoy on Malta -great trips to M'dina, Gozo and various archaeological sites outside the city of Valletta. We loved the history and the friendliness of everyone. Birgu itself was delightful and we were very glad not to be staying in Valletta itself which was much more crowded and touristy. It's only a very short ride across the harbour - we absolutely recommend staying across the water.

Please replace the clothes hangers!

This is a great property. You need to be understand prior to booking that you are sharing the kitchen lounge facilities with the other room (two rooms, with i assume a third on the way). That said, we never saw another guest, though heard them enter and leave on occasions. The other thing you need to understand is the reason you are likely staying in Birgu is because of the cute narrow streets. This means that everyone is in very close to gether. If you have your windows open (there is aircon as an alternative) you will hear the sounds of the neighbourhood. This is not necessarily a problem, but book with that understanding. This is a great location and the room is more than adequate. The bed was VERY comfortable.

There was a lot of construction noise during the time of our stay. This was coming from further up the stairs. Impact Drill, sanding etc. With the stone construction, all these sounds travel through the building. The Host was generally responsive when we raised issue, but it was regular. Coming off 30 hours of flights from Australia and both developing head colds it was an issue for us. This could have been improved with some advance notice, limiting the noise to set/notified times. We could have possibly worked around it. The fine white dust in the stairs and common area could also have been managed better. I assume this is only for the short term and without it, I'd happily book again.
