Quirky hotel close to the city.
Interesting that breakfast orders are placed the night before but breakfast was lovely. I understand it is to ensure there is no kitchen waste.

Friendly greeting by all the staff at The Lawrence, made us feel really welcome. Beautiful decor throughout and an excellent breakfast. Gorgeous sitting room with a crackling welcoming fire, a welcome sight after a day out and about.

Beautiful hotel, tastefully restored and decorated with great attention to detail. We received a very warm and friendly welcome on arrival. The roaring fire in the drawing room was such a lovely touch — perfect for enjoying a nightcap after an evening out.
Our room was cosy, comfortable, and also beautifully decorated, making our stay even more enjoyable. We would happily return and highly recommend it to others.

A tasteful restoration of a beautiful period property. The furnishings and decor are wonderful. The theme of Irish Poets is enveloping without being stifling.

Great staff, comfortable room, excellent breakfast, street parking and fairly handy for the city.
Minor point - our downstairs room backed onto the area outside the kitchen so there was a privacy element here

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was exceptionally good especially the porridge! We also enjoyed the roaring fire, it was brilliant as it was extremely blustery when we stayed. Warmed us up nicely!
We loved every bit of our stay.

The Lawrence was a dream come true! I booked this hotel for something a little more swanky on our 8 day tour of the North half of Ireland (Belfast, Derry, Galway, Dublin) between Christmas and New Years 2025. My mother (age 77), husband and I (age 40) were only supposed to spend one night in Derry. We quickly realized we needed to extend our stay and Emmett, John, Dave, and the other members of staff were so accommodating! They found us an extra night up the street at their sister property the Art House and effectively saved our trip! Emmett took special care to find a room on the ground floor for my mother who has mobility issues, the staff even transported our luggage up the street and into our rooms for our transfer. Breakfast was fabulous, but our favorite part of our stay was spending time in the Lounge in the evenings, grabbing a drink and chatting with fellow travelers. To say that our stay at the Lawrence saved our trip is no hyperbole, 15 out of 10 would highly recommend. I can't thank the staff at the Lawrence enough!

Second time staying at the hotel and we loved it again. The service is first class, the rooms are luxurious, the breakfast is delicious and the location is perfect - central, but away from the noise.

In a roadtrip through Ireland north and west coast during 8 nights, this hotel was a lovely place for a very well resting night, well located and easy to check-in and check-out. The staff were truly professional and friendly.
The temperature (very hot) in the room was a bit hard to control and keep at a comfortable level during the night

Oh my, the bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. We didn’t want to leave. The staff were really friendly and they have a small bar where they serve drinks on request.
It was in lovely location but the walk back to the hotel was up a steep hill. Parking was sometimes challenging but we always found a space.

Very friendly hotel that explains some of the history of the hotel on check in, lovely personal touch. Very comfortable. felt very safe as a female solo traveller. Great breakfast.

The location of The Lawrence is great, you can walk to the city centra within minutes. We went here for Halloween and the Parade is just down the street and the fire works are only 2 minutes walk away. We rented the Apartment and it was really cosy and warm with a great shower. The décor was lovely and the bed was comfortable. Host was lovely and the rest of the staff where friendly and great. Would recommend The Lawrence to anybody who wants to visit Derry.

Nice decor & beautiful area.
Quite pricey. For the price of the room breakfast should be included. I saw it posted on booking.com for 30 euros cheaper, the day after we paid. We should be given that difference back.

I absolutely loved this property. I think I have been ruined me for all other guest houses/hotels. Everything was perfect, comfortable bed, clean washroom, beautifully decorated and just the best place to be!
The hill it’s a steep walk, but worth it!

The decorating of the rooms is exquisite. The rooms are very quiet. Colin greeted us and made us feel welcomed. He gave us some great tourist advice. His recommendation of The Park Bar was spot on and we got even more great directions from John the owner of the bar.

Amazing hotel with a brilliant location. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Beautifully furnished room and communal hotel spaces. Breakfast was generous and delicious. So convenient for exploring the city. Lots of free street parking around the property.
The only downside was no face washers with the towels in the bathroom. That’s it. Everything was great.

The Lawrence is an impressive period building, beautifully decorated. Weather was hot so availability of ice and use of fan in bedroom were welcome. Parking was convenient.
The standard of food for breakfast was poor and certainly not value for money (€15 per person).
Our Delux King ensuite bedroom was very small, no space for a chair. It was difficult to walk around bed when 2 carry-on suitcases were in the room. Otherwise room was very clean & attractively decorated, with 3 big windows.

I originally planned a longer stay (booked on 19 August 2024) at a price of £1,230. The full amount was charged to my credit card on 27 September. I changed the booking dates on 18 April this year with a revised price of £720.
Despite raising the issue of the £470 they owe me when I arrived and again before I left, and sending them two emails looking for a refund, they have not responded. If they don’t shortly issue a refund, I will have no option but to issue legal proceedings as I am fed up dealing with them. And Booking.com have done nothing after I issued a complaint!!!

Luxe guesthouse. Beautifully decorated. Parking was outside the door. Very helpful hosts - Emmet during the day and John in the evening. Both were enthusiastic storytellers which helped bring the history of Derry to life
The breakfast options were great - lovely porridge and Eggs Benedict were unexpected pleasures

Emmit and Colin were fantastic. Emmit gave us a tour of the property and you can tell that he really enjoyed his job and was proud of the building and its history. The hospitality was exceptional! The property is stunning and the attention to detail is exquisite. The location was just a walking distance to the “main” downtown area.
We had two rooms. The Jonathan Lawrence room didn’t have a lot of counter space and may have been too small for two if you’re not a couple. Aloysius room was fantastic! It also lacked counter space but it wasn’t a deal breaker. The robes were a nice touch and added to the beauty of the room and attention to detail.

This is the fourth time I’ve stayed in the Poets Corner. As well as a living space, there are outside seats and a water feature. Very peaceful. Yet an easy 5 minutes walk to the buzz of the city. The staff are always gracious. Thank you Colin.
I loved all.

Rooms were of a good size and comfortable.
Hotel decor and furnishings are in keeping with the overall theme of the hotel. I doubt the nuns that once lived there had any such luxury.
Plenty of drinking water in the rooms and lots of towels.
Adequate street parking
Friendly hosts.
A 10 minute walk into the centre.
Breakfast was £15 extra and limited in choice. None of us liked the sausages or the black/white pudding offered in the full Irish breakfast. (suggest a change of butcher).
Derry as a city overall is a bit rough (riots whilst we were there) but its a good starting point to discover the delights of the countryside of Donegal.

Such beautiful decor, very cozy and thoughtfully designed. Loved the bathrobe, loved the furnishings, loved that the in room coffee was a little bag of fresh grounds so we could steep it like tea! Great location, just a block from the river and a few minutes walk to the city walls and the Waterloo Street with all the fun, traditional Irish pubs.
The bed is very small for two people but we still slept great regardless, and the room is very tiny, but it's in a gorgeous old building, so that's to be expected. It's very comfortable and so cute! It was hot weather when we stayed so it was quite warm inside the building and the bedroom, but they had a fan in there for us which was great.

We had the Poet's room which was located in the back of the place so we had a nice quiet and secluded little apartment. The staff was wonderful and helpful with what to do and where to eat. We ate at a place nearby called the Quay West. Really good food and recommend anyone staying here to try them. We had a small garden to sit in with a wonderful little fountain that we could enjoy during the times we were at the unit. Recommend trying to get the Poet's room
Nothing. I know some people may not like the hills of Derry Londonderry but we are from San Francisco so it was a breeze for us!
